Ginny had been seventeen for days. Part of her had been hoping that something significant would happen. A bolt from the blue would come and strike her now that she as of age. That she would have awoken on Thursday morning and somehow felt different, that would she would have known exactly why. Instead that day had come and gone and the only thing ( Read more... )

On the best of days, Hermione tended to be the most cautious within her close group of friends. Being of an analytical mind, she always took care to look at the details surrounding any situation, occasionally making a greater deal of it all than she had to- and lately, she hadn't needed any help doing so at all. Rapture had been bad enough, putting their safety on the line as each one of them stepped down into the underwater city, subjecting them to threats greater than most that they'd encountered on the island. But worse yet in the past week was Sirius' disappearance, one which had left the entire group reeling, and Harry most of all. It dampened the overwhelming joy that Hermione felt over Ginny's arrival, although she did her best to keep her chin up every day if she could. The grin and feeling of childish joy that had filled her a moment earlier dissipated at the sight of Hermione's face. The look of panic that had been there a moment earlier made her frown, her stomach twisting into knots. This wasn't what she had wanted. "Fine," Hermione breathed, shaking her head and brushing the concern away as best she could. "Goodness, I should be the one to ask you that; I'm not the one who's just gone and thrown herself several feet through the air." Inhaling slowly and steadily, Hermione shook her head and offered a slightly queasy smile, rolling the tension that had suddenly grabbed at her shoulders.

"I've just been on edge lately, I think," she mused quietly. "So much has happened that it's a bit... well, it's a bit hard to keep track of it all, and I can't help but wonder what's to come next. A futile effort, to be sure, and that's putting it lightly. But yes, sorry, I should've remembered that the three of you, you all seem so capable of handling things like hurtling through the air and from quite a height. I'm the only one who'd panic."
