The island had settled back into its version of normal, but Cissie still felt anxious and out of sorts. The Great Halloween Plushy Massacre featured in her nightmares on a fairly regular basis and she was still picking bits of fluff out of her clothes. It all worked out in the end - she, Bart, Kon and Steph made a pretty good team if she said so ( Read more... )

"Oof," Kurt inhaled sharply, letting out a slight whistle as he noticed the arrow embedded directly in the bullseye, ducking out from behind a tree as he waved to Cissie in greeting. He'd been keeping himself busy recently, more so than in days past, trying to work past the fear that had lodged itself in his throat every time he noticed a trace of torn fabric scattered over the island. (No one had really been tasked with the job of cleaning up the entire mess of Halloween, as far as Kurt was aware, though he was sure that individuals did their best to clear certain areas of the eyesore.)

Shaking away the thought, he stepped forward, arms crossed and shoulders pulled back in a show of confidence.

"Remind me to never piss you off," he remarked lightly.

"Well, you know, I wouldn't actually shoot at you if you got me mad," Cissie said more lightly than she felt. "I would just come over and yell really loud."

Kurt couldn't know about the time she nearly killed someone for what he did to her therapist - or at least if he did, he hadn't said anything. Time had put some perspective on the whole situation but not nearly enough that she could make jokes or hear other people joke about her aiming at someone without getting a sick feeling in her stomach. If it wasn't for Kon... a very different Cissie would be here.

"But anyway, how are you doing?"

Kurt pursed his lips playfully, raising both hands to his ears and cupping them protectively. "Well, in that case, all the more reason. My ears are, after all, fairly sensitive. Their use is restricted to basic conversation and beautiful music, and anything which falls outside of that realm has to be monitored very closely," he joked with a quirk of his brow, before letting his hands drop to his sides again. On some level, it was true. Kurt didn't bother with very much, outside of music, outside of smooth-sailing friendships.

But, being a man of the theatre, he'd certainly come across his share of drama from time to time, and perhaps he had a higher tolerance for it than he cared to admit.

"And I'm doing fine," he replied with a light and plaintive sigh. "Also have felt, on occasion, tempted to punch the island in its metaphorical stomach, but practically, I know I'm not anywhere near strong enough to deliver such an effective blow. So, I'm biding my time, waiting until someone gives me a good enough distraction to steal the hours

Her yell wasn't anything like the Canary Cry, of course, but Cissie liked to think it was effective in its own way. If someone needed shouting at or she had something that desperately needing saying then by god, she was going to say it.

"I don't even think Superman could do that even if the island let him have his powers," Cissie said. "It's just really evil that way."

"But I think distraction could be had, if you just give me a minute to get my arrows packed away first."

"The minute is all yours," Kurt offered with an amused quirk of his brow, knowing that Cissie was the one doing him more of the favor, rather than the other way around. The only thing that kept him feeling at all settled about the island was throwing his energy elsewhere. Even something so subtly different as getting to laugh about Tabula Rasa, however feeble the laughter could be, was better than sitting around in Puck's hut and letting his mind wander in circles. "I'd say that I would do you one better and help you pack up your arrows, but never having taken archery, I wouldn't want to do anything to ruin the arrows. Like, I don't know, squash the feathers into disrepair."

He tilted his head. "Though I guess I could help carry them after. Or something. Or maybe I'd be better served by not distracting you so much in the middle of your work."

"Oh good," Cissie grinned and nudged him playfully on her way to start collecting her arrows. What they could do after she'd dropped everything off at her hut, she wasn't sure but she had faith that Kurt would think of something awesome.

"It's okay, you can totally come and help if you want. These ones are pretty durable - you can just pull them out by the shaft and drop them in the quiver." She had stuck to the normal arrows for this go around - what few trick arrows she had left were safely stowed away. There was no chance of him accidentally hitting a trigger and getting covered in perfume or anything like that.

"So after we're done here, what shall we do?"

Waiting until Cissie had pulled an arrow out as an example, Kurt worked on helping to tug out the rest, fascinated momentarily by the sharp heads and at how dangerous any of them could be, if placed in the wrong hands. He'd worked with weapons, himself, although the specific type of swords didn't seem available on the island. Sai swords, they were called, chosen by Kurt because they required minimal heft and were flashy as all got out, great tools for showmanship, and that he planned to use for an audition at some point in his life, if perhaps not on the island. (He had, after all, yet to hear of any auditions taking place at all, let alone those which might require showing off his dexterity ( ... )

As much as Cissie absolutely adored the art of shooting, it was a pain in the butt to collect them all again. It was definitely one of the more tedious parts and she was so very glad to have Kurt's help.

"Hmm," she said as she did a quick count to make sure she had every arrow. "The caves sound kind of interesting. A bit more Batman-like than I usually go but I haven't really been down there either. I think we should go."

"Well, if there's anything Batman-like down there, I'll have to rely on you for help," Kurt admitted with a slight shake of his head, his gaze resting on her quiver for a while longer as she counted up her arrows. "Because quite frankly, my response to anything of that nature would probably be to yell and scream in a register much more commonly found in girls. Although, who knows? If it's high enough, maybe it'll help me communicate with the bats."

Starting in the general direction of the large waterfall, he kept his pace slow as he waited for Cissie to catch up, only stepping forward out of a need for movement. "Anyway, I just thought it'd be neat. I've never been in a cave before, so. And Halloween has passed, so I also feel a lot less paranoid about going in."
