The latest round of Island Council elections were finished, and I once again had the job of posting the results to the Compound bulletin board: Tabula Rasa Island Council - Term 12

The refreshments table seems to have been a good choice in places to sit for the Council party, Hermione not having completely recovered from the lab explosion some days ago, but wanting desperately to congratulate all of the nominees on what she suspects must have been a close election. Spotting Steve by the table, she rises to her feet, a broad smile on her face as she cradles a glass of water to ward away any potential coughing jags.
"Councilman McGarrett," she greets, sounding altogether too pleased as she presses the lip of her glass playfully to her chin. "I don't want to take too much of your time away from the food, but I'd like to extend my personal congratulations on a job well-done."
"Councilwoman Granger," Steve responds, in a mildly amused tone as she approaches him. While she looks slightly worse for the wear - he recalls seeing her among the list of those affected by the explosion in the lab - he's hoping it isn't any great strain for her to come out today. Given what he knows about her, she seems like the kind of young woman who pushes herself in the pursuit of anything she feels passionately about, but there's no concern in his eyes as he turns to face her, only gratitude.
"I think the food will still be here," he adds, smiling slowly. "How are you feeling?"
"Better, thank you," Hermione replies, nodding her head appreciatively before shaking it in turn, as though to dispel any worries that Steve may have on his part. The last thing that Hermione wants to do at this time is to dwell overly much on a physical strain which will go away in time, instead sighing contentedly as she leans lightly against the table, taking a sip of water. "It's just a bit of a strain on the voice, but nothing that won't heal itself in time. I'd much rather spend time being excited over the new Council that we have in place. I'm pretty pleased with the five as a group. Not that I would've been heavily averse to any of the candidates, really..." Her nose wrinkled, as though to make note of one key exception.
"So, how's Danny taking the news?" she asks, quirking a brow. "It'll mean a lot more time spent on paperwork, for you. Ron complains fairly constantly about the time I set aside for all of this."
Steve can't attempt to hide the minor grimace that filters through, but he does make a tried-and-true effort, turning his face to at least partially mask it with a squint and a clearing of his throat. Danny is somewhere rejoicing at the news, he's almost positive about that, and likely to an almost gleeful degree, especially once he learns it'll mean paperwork for Steve, more paperwork than teaching normally allocates.
"I think he's coping," he replies, completely tongue-in-cheek as his eyes find Danny in the midst of the party-goers, talking animatedly, hands gesturing. "If anyone's more accustomed to the paperwork, it's him."
Following his gaze, Hermione's brow raises in amusement as she spots Danny off to the side, gesticulating in a way that makes Hermione wish she could only hear the conversation. The subject must be fascinating, at least, for there to be so much energy emanating off the other man. "Well, I'm glad to see that some of us can be pleased at having friends and family involved in a rather time-consuming job," she grins, turning back to Steve with a fond look. The best situations are those where both people involved can understand one another's passions, one another's drives, and accept them in full while still leaving room for feedback whenever needed. "I admit though, he didn't strike me as the type for paperwork. He never seems to settle enough to sit at a desk. Not whenever the two of us have talked, at least."
"He's - definitely in possession of more energy than most," Steve finishes, after considering the best way to phrase what he wants to say. Despite that, though, Danny is without question a lawman, in favor of everything that revolves around justice and due process and Amendment rights - and, on occasion, paperwork. Steve, on the other hand, had taken full advantage of the immunity and means the governor had given them back when the team had first formed, and paperwork wasn't exactly the most important step on his list. If anything, Danny's going to be gloating all too often when he realizes the tables have been turned, but if paperwork here and there means he'll get to accomplish the goals he promised to work on during his term, Steve will take each stack as it comes. "But he was a cop, back home. They're always one with the paperwork."
"Ahhh," she nods with sudden understanding and a quick nod. "I suppose that makes sense. It's certainly an occupation that most have to hold a bit of a passion for, isn't it? And then through that, you'd be able to find the willpower to persevere in just about anything." Her eyes skirted off to the side for just a second, thinking of Ron, a crooked smile on her lips that she quickly stamped down, cheeks reddening just a touch. But in spite of all that Ron liked to avoid serious work, he'd been busying himself quite a bit, preparing for the possibility of Quidditch and all the recruiting that it'd entail. Modifications that would have to be made, based on the types of balls they had, and their limitations. Although she wasn't sure that he would manage to join a team professionally, it certainly wasn't for lack of passion.
"But, well. If it's anything like last term, I'm sure that I'll end up getting so caught in paperwork that I'll forget to leave an equal share for everyone else. I... lose track of time, occasionally."
"Well, that's why there's a team of us," Steve replies, nodding insistently. "To lighten the load." The image of her working herself to the point of exhaustion doesn't exactly sit well with him, especially considering that she's still recovering from the effects of the explosion and he doesn't want paperwork to exacerbate any harm that she's already sustained. That being said, he's always willing to lend a hand where necessary, whether it be in an activity he considers as tedious as paperwork or in something more involved, like a rescue mission.
"And if you don't leave an equal share for me, there will be problems," he adds, smiling slowly.
"True," Hermione agrees with a quick nod. "Far be it from me to take away the chance to fill out paperwork from the rest of you. Really, it's not me trying to take over the entire island- although that'd be quite the scheme, you have to admit- but really, it's more that I'm a bit... focused, you could say, when it comes to this type of thing. Any of my classmates could have told you about the countless hours I whiled away on coursework, far beyond what we were actually assigned. But in this, I wouldn't want to even indirectly cause the rest of the members to be less informed. We'll be fine." Blushing, Hermione takes another sip of water to calm down her throat, trying her best not to babble the entire night away.
"Anyway, I suppose I should really let you get back to the food, and the celebration, and leave talk of the work itself to when we're in the office bright and early tomorrow morning," she grins, raising her glass. "I'll see you there?"
"Councilman McGarrett," she greets, sounding altogether too pleased as she presses the lip of her glass playfully to her chin. "I don't want to take too much of your time away from the food, but I'd like to extend my personal congratulations on a job well-done."
