To say that Hermione had been wandering around with the intention of patrolling the dangerous alleys and checking for anyone in need of help wasn't precisely accurate- but nor was it completely false. After having heard of a couple who'd gotten stuck in the Underground, forcing them to have their baby on the rather dingy car with little to ensure their safety, Hermione had managed to work herself into the mindset where every little glance mattered, counted as she moved from one destination to the next. Her schedule was too busy to allow her much time to relax, pull herself away, and look after those on the island who insisted upon wandering at will and wouldn't stop it at any threat, but if she was a little more attentive, and just a touch slower as she walked, it was because the sacrifice seemed like one quite natural to make ( ... )

"Well, at first I was shopping and then I was exploring and now I'm just sort of stuck," Kate admitted, then pointed up toward the mistletoe that was hanging just over her head. As far as people to help her out went, Hermione was considerably less awkward than a lot of other options and she was glad to see her. At the very least, she could trust that Hermione probably wouldn't make it any more weird than it would inevitably be anyway. There was nothing normal about being stuck under mistletoe with apparent magical properties.

"And none of these people who aren't really people will help me," she added, gesturing to the others on the street. "Man, they're creepy, aren't they?"

Narrowing her eyes as Hermione slowed to a stop and craned her neck to get a view of the plant overhead, she allowed herself a small inhale of surprise. She'd heard, naturally, about the mistletoe's antics this year, how it was particularly unpredictable in that it no longer appeared in the space of the rec room alone, but instead chose to pop up at will wherever it felt that a bit of mischief needed to be made. As such, her lips pursed with sympathy, Hermione shaking her head lightly and easily resolving to help Kate out of the situation. (No matter how inexperienced people thought her at times, a kiss between friends was really no burden at all ( ... )

"Well, then I guess I'm just gonna have to kiss you," Kate said with a sigh, as if it was a terrible hardship, but her grin probably gave her away. "Which should probably be something we never mentioned to Harry, right?" It was a little like Harry having to kiss her brother, which she would totally understand in a situation like this, but she'd still never want to hear about it. Ever.

It was much better than having to kiss a total stranger, too. There was a level of weirdness in kissing a stranger that Kate wasn't prepared for, even if it meant she got stuck here all night.

"Harry might very well be rather scandalized if we told him, yes," Hermione agreed with a slight huff of a laugh, before her own nose wrinkled at the thought, realizing just how closely she'd end up connected to Harry, in a way, by this. Ultimately, of course, it wasn't a major concern. Physically, there would be nothing transferred from Harry, then to Kate, and finally to herself. (Probably not, at least. Hermione didn't want to imagine how any of them would react if some type of bug happened to be passed between the three.) "And actually, I'd rather not think of him too much right now, myself. Although really, I think for both him and Ron, the shock might outweigh any potential amount of dismay."

Grinning, she stepped forward, her balance not quite set and slightly awkward, for how she wasn't quite sure how to approach the kiss. "So, erm. Peck on the lips, I suppose?"
