Game 5, Book 1 First Lines Vote

Jul 06, 2007 09:22

Hi everyone, and Happy Friday. Below are the made-up first lines that all you guys submitted, plus the real first line hidden among them. Make sure that when you vote, you include the number and the line itself please. I also like jeffr23's comments on the lines, so if it's OK, I'm going to do that also.

So, here it goes:

1. It was a celebration of the coming summer and a wedding.

2. Evelyn was having the sort of day that would make an excellent story for the grandchildren, if she'd ever bothered to have children in the first place.

3. Evelyn smiled.

4. The party had not yet begun.

5. Evelyn smiled involuntarily when she saw Mrs. Threadgoode coming into the cafe.

6. The Whistle Stop Cafe opened up last week, right next door to me at the post office, and owners Idgie Threadgoode and Ruth Jamison said business has been good ever since.

7. The name of the place was Whistle Stop.

8. Evelyn Couch dreaded visiting her mother-in-law.

9. Evelyn stared down at the chips and ice cream in her grocery cart with loathing.

10. If you take Interstate 85, you can drive from Atlanta to Montgomery in two and a half hours.

11. Mrs. Threadgoode had arrived earlier than usual.

12. Seeing the empty parking space right in front of the Piggly-Wiggly was the first bright spot in Evelyn's day.

13. The Whistle Stop Cafe was never empty, not completely, but two hours after a Sunday midnight, it was as close as it ever came.
