Esca’s smile widens as he meets Marcus’ confused look, then cocks his head when Marcus laughs and leans in close.
“It’s Aquila, actually.”
“What?” Esca’s grin falters. “Oh. No, I mean shots.” He holds up two double-shot glasses and feels a small splash over his hand. “Tequila! Have one with me.”
Marcus eyes the size of the glass. “I think you mean two.”
“One tequila, two tequila - it doesn’t matter as long as we don’t reach the floorth shot, right?”
A white flash of teeth distracts Esca. Marcus must be severely loosened up tonight. In class, Marcus chews on his pen and frowns at the lecturer, and in the hallways he looks straight ahead with purpose and little conversation. The shot glasses are discarded on someone’s telly, and Esca’s fingers are hot around Marcus’ sturdy wrist. They make their way down the stairwell and out the front door. Milling between partygoers who have spilled out onto the porch, Esca guides Marcus down to the end, where the porch lights have fizzled out.
“I don’t see you at parties much,” Esca says as he leans against the wooden banister, beside Marcus.
“And I see you at every single one,” Marcus says with a half smile.
“What can I say, I love Americans.” Particularly all-American blokes.
Marcus’s shifts to look at Esca. “Really? I don’t know how long you’ve been here or anything, but I figured you’d miss home anyway.”
Esca ignores the swell in his chest and uses the opportunity to press his arm against Marcus’ and drop his voice low. “Maybe it gets a bit lonely - but not right now. You’re here ( ... )
