Just a nice safe salt and burn Dean had said as all three brothers stepped inside the rundown looking house, their aim was to find the mourning broach with the ghost's hair inside of it and set it alight to send the restless and dangerous spirit back to rest but as with anything the Winchesters did, nothing was ever that simple: firstly the three ( Read more... )

The faint sound of his name caught his attention, and his head whipped around, a frown marring his face as he turned and headed down the left hallway, instead of the right when the fork in the hallway had been presented to him, his sawed-off loaded and ready. He'd gone been through three different floors already trying to find Sam, as well as some exit. But any door he'd opened had only led to another room or another hallway. It was fucking annoying as shit to be stuck like this. He felt like he was running around blind in a goddamn funhouse or some shit.

"Sam?" Dean called out as he got closer to where the voice, and his name, had come from.

"Heh, only in our life would a poltergeist be considered 'nothing special'" Dean remarked with a small snort of amusement. "Shouldn't have been that hard. Sam and the .. other me .. probably took care of it by now. Bet they're worried sick about you." He knew he would be if he were in their shoes right about now.

"So .. what else is different? Or .. the same? For you, where you're from, I mean." He was rather curious to know just how much was different compared to his own life.

"Against the end of the world, rebelling angels and all three of us potentially being vessels a hunt like that's a welcomed vacation." He remarked with a smirk of his own. "And knowing you, you'd have your pet angel looking for me."

"Y'know that's quite an awkward question since i don't know what's happened to you." The youngest Winchester pointed out, just as curious as Dean was to know the comparisons.

He let out a small bitter laugh as he looked over at the kid and shrugged. "Pretty much the same damn thing, kid. With the exception of you being alive, that is. Angels, Lucifer, Vessels, the whole nine." Dean paused a moment before scowling though there was no real anger behind the expression. "Cas is not my pet."

A thought struck him then as he stopped all together and turned toward Adam. "Whatever happens, when we get back to our own places, do not say yes to Michael. I don't care what they offer you, don't. It's not worth it. We'll figure out a way to stop it. If I'm the same there as I am here, you know I will."

"You sure, I mean he comes when you call and he follows you around like a little lost puppy." Adam said jokingly before turning serious as well. "I am not going to betray the love I have for my living family to some dickless angels."

He opened his mouth to reply but promptly snapped it shut. He never really thought about it like that, to be honest. "Still not a pet." The older man grumbled.

"You'd be surprised what those crafty bastards can do. I'm just sayin, they'll do whatever they have to to get you to do what they want. Just .. don't listen to 'em."

"Whatever you say man." Though he could tell that his eldest brother was in denial but he'd leave it for now.

"Zachariah's already been offering to bring my mom back to life if I say yes to them." Adam muttered bitterly hating the fact that they would sink that low.

"It ain't worth it, Adam. I know how much she meant to you, but it's not worth becoming their little bitch. And don't you listen to a word that fat fuck says, it's nothing but bullshit." Honestly the only angel he was even trusting enough with was Cas, though the angel had earned that trust.

"At least they aren't here, the annoying bastards." Dean sighed and ran a hand through his short spiky hair before beginning to walk again. He had no idea what time it was, but knew at some poin they'd have to find a room so they could get some rest.

"I know but even you and Sam would at least think about it if they gave you the same offer right?" He asked hoping that he wasn't the only one that was weak enough to almost consider their offer.

"Though I wouldn't mind being saved by Cas or Anna right about now."

Not a chance, he wanted to say. Nothing was worth the end of the world. But it wouldn't be the first time he'd been tempted by something like that. His trip to hell should be answer enough for him. "Yeah, probably .. can't say I wouldn't be tempted." Dean replied at last. "But it wouldn't be the same, you can't erase the past and .. what's dead should stay dead."

Like him, he thought to himself. He'd been dead, in hell, shoulda stayed there. Dean shook his head and reached up to pat the boy's shoulder, giving it a light squeeze before sliding his hand up to the back of Adam's neck in a comforting gesture. "You and me both, kid." He said with a small laugh. "But it'll be alright. You just gotta remember that no matter how good their offer is .. it's not right."

No matter how many times Dean said: 'what's dead should stay dead', it just didn't seem right to Adam that the man in front of him and his older brother were seemingly excluded from that saying with the amount of times they had both died, even if most of those times that Dean had died was at the hands of that annoying Trickster.

"I know but sometimes it's really hard to say no after what's happened in the previous week or if I'm getting it in the neck from either of you or I'm playing mediator." He confessed as he relaxed at the familiar feeling of the comforting hand of his eldest brother at the back of his neck, Sam would joke that that was his off switch when he was either too energetic or he just couldn't sleep.

"I know it is, and I'm sorry you're stuck in the middle of all this end of the world bullshit, I really am." Dean said quietly, fingers rubbing slowly in place. "This life ain't easy, Adam, and it never will be. Even for as long as I've been doin this, grown up into it, it's still hard as fuck sometimes."

"But what they want us to do, what they want to achieve, that ain't a real life. Yeah, there'd be no more ghosts or demons or vampires .. but there'd be nothing else either. None of this." He said quietly, squeezing his hand and pulling Adam a fraction forward." None of us. Paradise sounds nice, but I'd rather have this than some plastic, Stepford life."

It was like he was twelve again, sitting in the living room as their Dad tried to explain who Dean was and that he wasn't really a traveling mechanic only for Dean to sum it all up in the 'Hunting Life Isn't Easy' speech, just without the swearing and just like back then he knew that no matter what Dean would always be there to help him see through the bullshit.

"Totally. I mean after everything's that happened, I don't think I could handle being normal."

Dean laughed a little. "It wouldn't even be normal. It'd be worse than normal. And as fucked up as our lives are, I'd rather have this." He pulled away after a moment, patting the kid on the shoulder.

"Now, let's go look around. I'm fuckin' starvin'. Maybe they got some pie somewhere. There's got to be a kitchen in this place or somethin'."

It wasn't until Dean mentioned food that he realized that he too was hungry, it seemed that both the eldest and the youngest Winchesters had bottomless pit's for stomachs as his started to growl in agreement.

"Some burgers wouldn't go a miss either." Adam remarked with a small embarrassed blush painting his cheeks. "I didn't pass anything that looked like a kitchen or somewhere to eat before finding you, maybe they're on a completely different floor."

A wide grin crossed his face as he glanced over at Adam. "I like the way you think." He said, obviously pleased by the thought of juicy burgers. "Probably. Can't have a hotel without a kitchen, even an abandoned one. We'll just have to keep looking I guess." Dean shrugged and started walking again.

As they walked, Dean checked doors and jiggled handles on the ones that seemed locked. There were never anyone inside of them or sounds coming from the ones that were locked, so he just left them be. They traveled down a few flights of stairs -- Dean refusing to get inside an elevator for that long a descent. He'd rather walk, thank you very much.

"Fucking finally." Dean exclaimed as he opened a large set of double doors on the fifth floor they'd looked through and found himself face to face with some sort of restaurant. There were tables and booths but no one seemed to be manning the helm.

"Think the food's still good?"
