A few thoughts on a few VMA 2013 performances

1/ *NSYNC's reunion

Ok, I'm not gonna talk about (for now) Robin Thicke's chance last night to have a decent-enough VMA performance to "compete" with this year's rival Justin Timberlake (which he kiiiinda ruined with that nutcase that is Miley Cyrus). Instead, I'm gonna talk about that long-awaited *NSYNC appearance.
What can I say? Disappointment. Disappointment. Disappointment... Don't get me wrong, they sure were gorgeous, looked great, even danced great and sounded great. But no, that wasn't what we all wanted. It wasn't good enough for me. It felt like all the other members' microphones were off and only Justin's was on. Yeah, it felt more like a Justin Timberlake performance than an *NSYNC one, and that the others were nothing but back-up dancers summoned there just to attract more attention to HIM. Even JC Chasez didn't get to sing that long, and even when he did, the volume was too low and they struggled to raise it up for him. All the singing up to that point was Justin's and the background voices we heard were nothing but playback stuff. I understand that they might be a lil' bit rusty as it's been 10 years now since they last performed together, but that's what rehearsals are for! And I know that dancing and singing live is tough, but Justin did it last night, why only him? What about JC? He stayed in the business enough to allow him to keep his skills intact. But no no, despite that, and not to mention the known fact that he (along with Justin) used to be the lead singer of *NSYNC, the poor guy didn't get a fair chance to sing just as much as Justin did. He even had to throw us a "Baby, Baby, Baby" in the end just to say "See? I could've sung too".
Bottom line ; It was a Justin Timberlake selfish performance, and thanks to him we'll never see the boys-band *NSYNC again... just a bunch of puppet background dancers.

PS : Full video available HERE. As you can see, even the video's name from MTV's website says it all.
Oh disappointment.

EDIT : According to Us Weekly (article HERE), "Timberlake nixed earlier plans to include more 'N Sync songs for the VMA show... They originally were told that it was going to be more of their old hits... but then Justin reworked it.". He sang about 9 of his songs and he STILL "didn't want the reunion to be the whole thing"!... Well, no comment on that.
Again and as I stated in an earlier comment on UsWeekly's page, the *NSYNC were backup dancers last night, nothing more. Such a shame it was so short and so Justin-centered in terms of vocals. Way to use a reunion as cover for more attention and blow up a long-awaited kind of entertainment for your selfishness, Justin! Thank you for that.

2/ Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake? I'm not a fan as you all know, but in two words, he was : in control.
He knew his music. He knew his choreography. He knew his stage, and he made use of every inch of it.
Kudos.

3/ Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke &co

As for Miley Cyrus's performance, well, it kinda started off sort of "promising" at the beginning... Yeah, quite frankly, it's true that her look was (very) off-putting but you gotta admit that although her Live singing skills weren't exactly her "Forte" (I can't think of any "Live Forte" for Miley actually), the song IS good and last night's performance wasn't honestly any worse than the video itself... At least THAT's a good thing!
I kinda liked their stage; all those bears as well as all those funky outfits and objects held by those dancers dancing next to Robin Thicke &co. near the end... Yeah it was cool-ish.
"We can't stop" went well I guess, but "Blurred Lines" 's classy style was ruined.
I'm not gonna focus on Robin, since as I said, he sure did his part right last night but he had an amazing year and he really really missed out on the chance of having a top-class MTV VMA performance that would've out-shined Justin Timberlake's who, on the other hand played his cards right and even brought in the *NSYNC to commemorate his Vanguard award reception night.
There isn't really much to say about the performance. All eyes were on Miley and that's such a pity for a good artist like Robin. There's no way to describe the girl's metamorphosis other than by saying that ; I thiiiink she's trying (desperatly) too hard to be... How can I put this ? ... Black!
And don't get me wrong here either. When you look at it; That Twerking overdose, those black dancers, that funky à-la-MelanieB hairstyle... All the signs are there and Rihanna's face as she witnessed that nutshell take place last night says it all! But there sure is no explanation to all that major out-of-control slutty pelvic-thrust-full behavior. If she's trying to make the abnormal normal by "pushing the envelop" starting now, well, she's gonna have a rough couple of days getting through all the harsh comments that are already flooding the social media.

EDIT : According to Us Weekly (article HERE), Robin kinda realized that he messed things up by including Miley who ended-up "overshadowing him at what was supposed to be his big night at the VMA yesterday. Well, what's done is done now, Robin. You should've known better if you've seen her latest up-to's.
