the drugs don't work

Livejournal, I love you! I spent a weekend with an elegant French friend-of-friend getting sunburned, then allergic, then stupid. It's been very French around the blue apartment: crusty bread for breakfast, bottle of wine at lunch. Personality, as expressed through the mortar mannerisms of language (the way I say yeah yeah yeah to encourage someone ( Read more... )

Neti pot. Before I got one, I used my regular tea pot and got the hang of warm salt water that tastes like tears, and not drowning myself.

Ahhh, the neti pot, yes, C and I finally invested in one this fall! Miracle-working machine! I'm too shy to do it at work, but it saves my face when I'm home for the day (with my eyes running and my nose crawling off me).

I use a Neti pot too and love it, but I don't have serious allergies.

Max does, and he swears by Actifed (the old formula of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride and triprolidine hydrochloride, not the stuff you can get off the shelf). It's available behind the counter under the brand names Genac, Aprodine, and Wal-Act (the Walgreen's house brand).

Hell, I'll do a neti pot anytime, well or ill. It's the 21st century version of one of those 19th century Magic Tonics, the kind quacks sold from old apothecary bottles-- Good For Whatever Ails You! But oooh, I haven't heard of these drugs. I'll try them for sure! Thanks so much (and thanks to your fellow) for the tip.

My two favorite Lauras in California, the one you know and another you don't, have both been happy with the allergy shot thing. Not quick and not cheap, but they seem to think they're worth it.

Oh man, I got allergy shots when I was little and my allergies were way worse. I think they helped (we'd just moved to the NW from California-- all the new molds and damp done me in I suspect); if I have another really traumatic summer I might just roll up my arms again.
