"The whole key to Faith is that she's in pain," said Buffy-writer Doug Petrie. This quote is the simplest way to understand Faith's motivations for every action she undertakes. Created as a foil for Buffy, a Slayer who began as the stereotypical spoiled teenaged valley girl, Faith's life has been a continual story of misfortune, neglect, and loss. Becoming a Slayer was just one more hard knock; her history, mapped out in both literal and emotional bruises, shaped her into a girl whose first reaction is to wound, lest she be wounded. So, while Faith's M.O. is to be the trash-talking, dirty-dancing, class-skipping punk and no-holds-barred party girl, it's hard to ignore how forced her act really is. The toughness and devil-may-care attitude which characterize her behavior are fists she puts up to fight off the world that's got a habit of knocking her on her ass.
When she was introduced in early season three, Faith was looking for a place to belong. She, unlike Buffy, was touched by loneliness long before becoming a Slayer; growing up in a working class Bostonian neighborhood, Faith never had much in the way of family or friends. She wants and needs a stable place and people who will support her, but try as she might, the universe seems to always dangle that carrot just beyond her reach. As an example: her first Watcher was murdered in front of her, her second manipulated and abandoned her, and her third tried to have her locked up. Unsurprisingly, the endless mantra of "Fuck you, Faith" from fate fosters a bitterness in her, and she tires of trying to do good when no good ever makes its way back to her.
That's why Faith embraces being a killer. All Slayers are killers, a notion which Faith understands in a way Buffy refuses; but Slayers are called to kill evil, to be a force for "good." In Faith's case, she stops seeing what benefits there are in trying to be some hero, since that path's never brought her much reward (plus, Buffy's already there to fit the bill, making Faith feel even more detached). So Faith looks out for number one, even after accidentally murdering a human. Insodoing, she winds up turning to the Dark Side. Playing by society's rules had her on a losing streak so endless it drove her insane; throwing morality aside in favor of her own rules, Faith much prefers the instant gratification that her amoral "want, take, have" philosophy affords her.
[orientation] Predominantly heterosexual. She makes numerous references to male lovers throughout season 3, even taking the virginity of Xander Harris. She views sex as casual and uses it as a means of relieving stress. She also has a disdainful attitude toward men based on how predictably they react to her sexual advances. Like most characters, she does have her ambiguous moments, and there's plenty of fan speculation about the nature of her feelings for Buffy (creator Joss Whedon even agrees that some lesbian subtext exists).
[appearance] No change from episode 22.
[wish] To have a clean slate/not be herself anymore. Whatever way it worked, like a permanent amnesia, would be fine with her.
[requested house] Kagayaku, Inoshishi, Tsuyosa (in that order)
[misc notes] As a Slayer, she has enhanced strength, speed, heightened instincts...basically, whatever a human would need to go toe-to-toe with demonkind, she's got it. She's also done her share of weapons training.
SAMPLES
[sample #1: prose log]
A little kinky, you gotta admit.
All this public nudity, that is.
Faith's not a shy girl, not by any means, but bathing in a room full of other chicks isn't exactly comfortable. The expectation that you're just supposed to hang out naked in a hot tub after the showering's over makes it a lot worse than a run of the mill locker room situation. But she'd gotten laughed at when she asked if she could have some hot water brought to her room (floors made of dried grass, it could be a thing), and living in the Land That Personal Hygiene Forgot is not an option.
She's giving a death glare to some bitch who won't stop looking at her funny. Yeah, she thinks as she scrubs the dried blood from under her nails, It's blood, and no, it ain't mine. Even for the ones not close enough to notice, she's still drawing attention. It doesn't help that all these little native girls are so damn skinny, flat chests no hips. They're staring at her like she's some kind of a nasty blow-up doll just because she's got a little more where it counts? The itch to start slapping mouths and pulling hair is getting pretty tough to ignore, but Faith's sticking to just attitude for now. And not entirely by choice. The cold jade bracelet is gonna have to go, she already can tell that much, but until she can figure out how to make that happen, she's gonna play civilian and make nice with the other naked girls.

[ Beating down on a guy who's tied up isn't new to to Faith. She's pretty familiar with getting information by any means necessary. ]
[ She's never really been paid for it, though. ]
[ And certainly not by the tied-up-guy in question. ]
Your mother must be proud of you, sugar. You really...respect women. You respect women so hard you feel like you could just...
[ She places the ball of her foot against his family jewels, watches his eyelids stretch in fear like those of a sick gazelle that smells a lion. Wiggles her toes a bit, admires the blood-black polish that the little servant applied that morning. When she looks back up to his face, her smile is bright and perky, like she should have been a cheerleader. ]
Like you could just.
[She shifts her weight, applying pressure. ]
