all over the place again

Tim and Wendy visited me! Although there was little to do, and we were all pretty lazy, and Wendy was perhaps a little antsy (?) AND my house may have attacked both of them with it's pet dander allergens... I personally loved their visit. It involved a lot of eating, thinking about eating, and Harry Potter in both Scene It and movie form. And it ( Read more... )

teaching is a noble profession. you could be that teacher that has a profound affect (effect?...see, i never learned very good grammar and you could teach me!) on some kids and changes their lives for the better. hey, you never know!

Liz has a point. Teachers, in their own way definetely have an effect on the world (affect? see. TEACH ME. Um... yea I think its effect). I've only had 2 teachers who really made an impression on me, and I still think about them and talk to them (or would if one wasn't on an Indian reservation somewhere - which makes me think you could maybe be a teacher somewhere that really needs it??). As for the ADD-ness... aderol? Is that even spelled right, OR the right drug? I think if you enjoy it you'll be ok. If you don't, then quit and write a novel while working at the DMV or Stop&Shop. Or not. Don't worry though, we're all afraid we're making the wrong choice. Scary stuff, this growing up.

I'm agree with everything Liz and Tiff said. Becoming a teacher gives you the potential to do something great. Not to sound cliche but teachers have a real impact on kids and help to shape them. Don't think that becoming a teacher will lead to you squandering your potential to do something great. Yes being a teacher may not be as glamourous as becoming a famous writer but it definitely is a job that can have a profound affect (I think I'm using that correctly but if could be effect I don't really know) on lots of people too. And who says that if you become a teacher you can't do something noteworthy. Teachers do noteworthy things all the time. And my whole pro-teacher rant is not just because my Aunts are teachers either. I really feel like you're not looking at the whole picture.

And that whole ADD thing can be solved with some medication.

Wow guys, you are all fabulously encouraging.

First of all, to bein my career as English teacher:
Effect = noun, as in "profound effect"
Affect = verb, as in "affect their lives"

Ok, phew, had to get that out there.

Also, you are all correct in saying that being a teacher is a noble and noteworthy profession. I would never disagree with that, and if I do become a teacher, I will try to be the kind that does have that profound effect, at least on some kids' lives. Also, I appreciate that you all have confidence in my potential to be that kind of teacher.

My only problem is that traditional high school curriculums seem to loom before me in all of their tedious monotony. I guess my goal will be to shake things up, without getting fired.

And I'm still planning on writing that best-selling novel. Don't count that out.

But thanks for all your words of encouragement. Seriously, it did help to read all that. Someone has to put me in my place. You guys handled that nicely.
