a better idea: it wouldn't suprise me if the ipod stored the information for each song in an xml file like itunes does on your computer (i'm too lazy to check... you should). If that's the case, then the xml file would link every filename of every song directly to it's true tag information, simply requiring you to write a little program to parse the file and either just export a text file of the song names with artists etc and the coresponding file names, or if you want to get fancy, allow you to browse and select the song names from the xml directory within the program, select then, and then have the program automaticly grab the songs you want.
hmmm, it's a thought, i'll comment again if i find said xml file. If i remember correctly, however, that kind of information is stored in a file format i have no idea how to access...
well, i found something that i think is what i'm looking for, it isn't an XML however, it's just a data file, terminal won't tell me anything more specific than that. It has no default application to open it, but if you make it open in a text editor it gives you the information about all of the songs, more or less lke you had expected, but with tons of gibberish in betwixt everything. That last comment is all tha tshows up when i try to copy and paste it into a livejournal comment, but i think you can envision something of what it looks like. Anyway, know where the info is, now just have to figure out how to get the useful stuff out from all the useless crap... baltis all i want for christmas is godly programming knowledge...
