Lucifer didn't pay attention to the calling of his vessel's name. As far as he was concerned, Sam Winchester did not exist any longer. Those who knew him were just insignificant humans and were better off forgetting. That or he would just bring them to their final ends.
He was still new to this body. Nick had failed and was left to ash on the floor of Sam's apartment. But Sam - the world looked so different through his eyes. He could see the colors and the beauty of the garden that was hiding under the dirt and stink of the human dwellings. There was still a lot of work to do, but he could bring this garden back. Yes, it was simple.
He walked straight past Dean, his eyes looking beyond the people on the streets and instead at the garden he was seeing in his head. No reaction to his vessel's brother because he didn't even recognize him.
Dean wasn't wrong. He couldn't have been wrong. And if Sam wasn't responding -- were there even any demons left?
No, it couldn't have been a demon. A demon would have taunted, teased. This was something different, and Dean was too keyed up to believe in random coincidences. That just didn't happen. Ever. He reached out in response, taking his brother's arm and pulling, taking his attention the hard way.
"Sam?" He repeated himself, why, he wasn't sure but he needed to confirm it. To be sure because this couldn't be true.
Lucifer wasn't used to others daring to touch him, so the being spun around was a bit different. He looked down at the hand that held onto his arm, then up at the face of the human that dared to touch him.
He tilted his head as he felt the Sam inside react a bit, giving him the name of the human. "Dean. Hello."
Dean watched Sam's face closely, trying to gauge what that response meant exactly. Because that wasn't a Sam response and this wasn't Sam behavior. His hand tightened on the gun in his grip and he started to take a step back.
