There was a real flood of survivors that day -- it was almost surprising to see so many if Dakota were to be quite frank. But it wasn't the amount of new arrivals that threw her into that spiral she'd spent months climbing out of. It was him.

That one little boy who clung to his mother's leg, small arms wrapped around her like a vice. And though he wasn't as old as Tony had been, and he didn't resemble Tony in the slightest, she couldn't help but think of him -- her own baby boy.

She'd once told Cherry that if she were ever feeling like she were trapped in a drain to just reach up. Even if nothing was there, reach up. But she wouldn't admit to anyone but her subconscious that reaching up just wasn't enough.

Watching the mother lead her son off towards what they referred to as the dining quarters, Dakota couldn't help but feel the tears brimming in her eyes. She took a deep breath, surprising herself with her strength when her chest didn't shake even the slightest -- she felt like it was going to explode.

As her vision started to blur, she quickly brushed away the tears with the back of one of her hands. But as a slender arm snaked around her waist, pulling her into a familiar body, she dropped her head slightly, eyes closing.

"I thought of him too." Cherry's naturally husky voice was lowered, tone just above a whisper.

Dakota didn't know what to say, but gave a short nod. She'd told Cherry all about her Tony while the other woman went through those nine months of pregnancy. It helped her fall asleep at night, curled up beside Cherry and spilling out her heart about the one thing that had meant the most to her in life.

Dakota licked her lips and lifted her chin again, blinking back more tears that threatened to spill. "I just wish it was something I could...get over."

"Not get over." Cherry said. "Get through."

Dakota had to smile, and she turned to the brunette. "Get through." She repeated.

"Well what am I here for?" Cherry demanded light-heartedly. "To help you get through this or for you to stare at?"

Dakota gave a small laugh, but couldn't find it in her to say anything. Cherry didn't seem to mind though, cocking her head some and resting it on the blonde's shoulder.

Until the baby was grown up -- it was the two of them against the world.

I know right, cheesy? XD
