OMG BEARS

ARE EATING DELICIOUS. Srsly, do Yahoo have a hate on for fandom or something? They ate all the bookmarks I made in 2001 on My Yahoo, with the result that I vaguely remember a whole bunch of West Wing fics that I wouldn't mind rereading, only I have no idea where they were, because I didn't think I'd need to remember info since I was BOOKMARKING ( Read more... )

Dudes. If you want us to trust the cloud, the cloud has to stay where we left it and not delete content all over the place.

THIS, SO FUCKING MUCH.

I only started using Delicious a few months ago, importing several thousand bookmarks (many of them unsorted) from Firefox. Now I'm kinda glad I didn't waste untold hours properly tagging and sorting all those bookmarks. Nevertheless, I have tagged many hundreds of fics and other things, and I'll be proper pissed if I can't find a decent alternative.

And if fandom scatters far and wide to multiple social bookmarking sites, searching tags for popular / recommended fic is going to get way more complicated.

Bah, humbug.

I don't have that many bookmarks and they're pretty disorganised, so I'm not going to be too inconvenienced that way, but it's the functionality of being able to search for fic and know that everything you find is good enough for at least one person to bookmark it that I'm really going to miss. And the centrality, like you say.

People seem to be talking up Pinboard.in, but 1) it costs to join and 2) no tag bundles.

Oh god, I'm so sorry. :( I'm feeling happy right now that I never did get around to organising mine.

eeehhhhhh... just found out earlier today that Yahoo are closing down delicious. So I exported my 374 bookmarks (all carefully tagged) and tried to import them into zootools. Zootools looks pretty cool, but there was a 3 hour wait on the bookmark import because of all the increased traffic to their site.

0 of my bookmarks are imported and it's at least 5 hours later. I wonder what will happen when I shut down my computer...

Woe!

Yikes. I bet all the similar sites are having problems tonight. I hope it works for you tomorrow. :(

Oh noes! Just went to check on zootool (24hrs later):

'We are offline

The Delicious rumors hit us pretty hard. We are currently working on the import system and the whole infrastructure to be able to handle that better. Sorry for the downtime and thanks for your patience!'

Yes, it sounds like a fantastic idea. I hope someone's also going to come up with some way of saving all the lovely bookmarks that are going to be lost.

What I am getting from this is 'Do not trust Yahoo with your data'.

(Edit: Only, of course, we can never know when Yahoo's going to buy that awesome independent service we just started using and ruin it. /o\)
