Also yeah, Blade and I both got defrosted by B the other week for P&P reasons, but at least I've now seen half of it? :D? And I will watch the other half eventually!
Also FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFU, True Grit people, unless that's somehow something which needs to be not spoilered, of which my understanding is that IT IS NOT. :(
I haven't seen it for a long time. I could totally watch it again IJS.
Blade was all 'I saw the wet shirt scene and the kiss at the end, so I have seen the good bits', but those are the bits that were giving me motts when I was 13, and the good bits in BBCP&P are EVERYTHING.
No, she was all over the trailer, but apparently 14-year-old girls don't get large credits. :( What is wrong with 'Introducing...' like in Hairspray I ASK YOU. It is a little bit retro, but so is the movie.
I love The King's Speech. I thought it was a beautiful movie. The book is also extremely good. Logue's grandson was a co-writer and there are letters from the Duke of York / King George VI in there.
I've just finished another book called King's Counsellor written by King George VI's private secretary - it's his diaries during WWII - fascinating.
I've ordered KGVI's official biography (a second hand copy) and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival.
There really aren't that many books about KGVI which makes me :(. He was the quiet achiever. There's very little footage of him speaking, however if you google around, you'll find some (I've spent hours on youtube).
The coat Colin Firth was wearing in the Abbey - I want to have little coat babies with it. It was divine. I also want Logue's consultation room. I want that a lot.
That glass roof! The design for Logue's rooms was great - gorgeous building, but believably shabby. Would the Church of England object if I had babies with both the coat and the roof?
And ooh, recs, thank you! The diaries especially sound right up my alley.
The King's Counsellor was a very fascinating read. The private secretary had been so to the Prince of Wales (and quit because he despaired of the man's ways), became private secretary to King George V and the The Prince of Wales when he became King and then assistant private secretary and then private secretary to KGVI. His writing was very good and the people he was on first names with - Churchill etc, and experiencing it from the inside. It's really fascinating. I got my copy from Border's.
The King's Speech book was harder to find, as the movie has only had limited release here and can only be found in certain places.
It's pretty much Hailee's first actualfax role. She's done bits here and there, but she's a total unknown, so I understand why her name's not mentioned. No one knows her, so it's not really a draw.
Of course, because of that, we didn't realize till after the movie had opened that we KNEW her. She went to two of my kids schools and was in a play with my daughter! I mean, we really knew her!
And she is AMAZING in the movie.
The movie is great by the way. I've seen both King's Speech and True Grit, they are both wonderful movies, but already I remember more about TG than KS and I saw TG weeks before. In ten years I'm sure I will not remember seeing King's Speech, and will still remember most of True Grit. But, that could just be me...
I know, but you can put an actor's name up because they deserve it, even if they're not a draw. I like the idea of the 'Introducing...' credit - it's a little bit retro, which would have suited the movie. And it would be nice to have the promo materials acknowledge that the movie isn't carried solely by dudes.
You knew her?! That's so cool!
I want to see TG, but chances are it'll be on DVD, because I hardly ever go to actualfax movies.
My lovely lady made me watch Pride and Prejudice about two weeks ago and I thought it was brilliant and also that she was amazingly cute.
I thought this was one of the best movies I'd seen in a very long time. Everything about it was so perfect, acting, casting, sets, script, etc etc etc.
Right? I thought she looked vaguely familiar, decided it was because she looked a bit like Meryl Streep, and then... holy crap! And very skilful make-up artists de-cute-ifying her.

(Incidentally, I have been looking for a coat that style for B EVERYWHERE. Tailors of the world are missing out on big $. From us.)
