Profic rec before I start wittering on about mutants: Their Changing Bodies, by Alaya Dawn Johnson. Forget Twilight; this is what teen vampires would be like. She deftly manages the shifts between terror and humour, and the main character is a massive nerd, which always gets points from me.

YES OK SUCCESS JAMES WHATEVER YOU SAY. *____* Except Atonement, because I am not supporting Ian McEwan's existence, and I can probably let myself off Narnia because I already saw that and his fake ears are weird.

Starter for 10: Cute and funny and I am totally impressed by the variety of accents he can do, but owwwww my embarrassment squick. Warning for blademistress, if she ever thinks about watching it: contains ginger Cumberbunch (as my mother insists on calling him).

Bright Young Things: That awkward moment when you realise James McAvoy's character isn't going to be in the movie any more and you still have to watch the rest of it. (It's not bad. It's stylish and well scripted and reasonably fun, but I just did not give a damn what happened to any of the characters.) Contains David Tennant with a truly startling moustache.

Shameless: Totally awesome. I was worried, having read the IMDB description, that it was going to be a lot of classist mockery and look-how-much-better-we-are-than-Those-People, but it's more like Outrageous Fortune in tone, respectful and affectionate and very very funny. Stars James McAvoy, a bunch of really douchey outfits, and at one point a strategically placed bouquet of roses. Also his IRL wife, who is excellent and adorable, and Maxine Peake, who is so good that I legit didn't recognise her for like six episodes despite having watched Silk a couple of months ago. In fact, everyone in the cast over the age of 11 is great.

I also watched XMFC again with nmarlow, which we had to do on the computer because it's already gone from cinemas, and I accidentally managed to get it without subs. The French was mostly OK. I can sort of follow the German. I know the Spanish word for 'beer'. I do not speak Russian at all. Still, she got the salient points, and then I made her watch vids.

Next up: State of Play, which I just found out also has Kelly MacDonald. It's like tiny adorable Scottish people central! ETA: Halfway through ep 2 of State of Play and John Simm just patted James McAvoy on the stomach, just like Darwin and Havok! GLEE.

Recs:
Any Other World (vid), by waterpulse Fantastic images, and the instrumental parts are really powerful.

The Boy With the Bubblegun (vid), by kaydeefalls Oh, ERIK. ;_;

Possible Worlds, by trailingoff. Charles/Erik, R, 12,000 words. I love that it's a fix-it where nothing's easy, and I love even more that Charles's two dearest wishes are apparently a) to fix things with Erik and b) to have his hair back. CHAAAAARLES.

The Daycare 'Verse, by brilligspoons and pocky_slash. Charles/Erik, various lengths. Go look at this art and contemplate Raven's little FACE and Hank's little TEETH and Erik's discombobulation for a while, then go read this and this and expire of joy. It's an AU where they're all still mutants (and still totally themselves) except with 100% less megalomania and nobody firing missiles.

Center of Balance, by soundslikej. Charles gen, PG, 1600 words. Five mutants Charles Xavier never met at age 12, and one he did. This is exactly how I believe 12-year-old Charles was, and the scene with Raven at the end is lovely.

Anthem for Doomed Youth, by Fahye. Charles/Erik, Erik/Mystique, 13,000 words, teen. It's Raven, fully developed and seen from the inside out, and it's brilliant.

Don't Try This at Home, by Oliviacirce. Charles/Erik, 5000 words, explicit. Mindsex: hot and sweet and totally creepy, ie exactly what I'm in this fandom for. \o/
