Eleven recs, in no order whatsoever.

First off, my gift: Going Back (1564 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Marlows - Antonia Forest
Rating: Not Rated
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Nicola Marlow, Esther Frewen
Summary:
It's the start of a new term at Kingscote and Esther Frewen is dreading it
Great Esther character piece - an insightful look at her home life, with a resolution set (very appropriately for Forest) on a train. I love the scenes in canon when they're travelling to or from Kingscote, and the answer to the question posed by the end of Attic Term rings very true. Thank you, anon!

Carrying the Banner (3668 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Newsflesh Trilogy - Mira Grant
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Georgia Mason, Shaun Mason, Stacy Mason, Michael Mason
Summary:
The Masons take a trip to the museum.
Awesome George voice, with backstory-type details that just feel right.

Jumping and Dressage: The Blog of Rebecca Ryman (2353 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Newsflesh Trilogy - Mira Grant
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Rebecca Ryman
Summary:
You've heard about Rebecca Ryman by now...
This one does a fantastic job of fleshing out Rebecca Ryman, giving her a real voice and personality - and, of course, a blog.

Night Flying (2163 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Old Kingdom - Garth Nix
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Lirael/Nicholas Sayre (Old Kingdom)
Characters: Lirael (Old Kingdom), Nicholas Sayre
Summary:
"The walk to Barhedrin takes Nick and Lirael the better part of the night." Nick's first night back in the Old Kingdom. (Set following the events of "Nicholas Sayre and the Creature in the Case," but no prior knowledge is required.)
Lovely canon-esque prose, and a thoughtful look at how Lirael and Nick might be afterwards, separately and together.

and remember who I am (4795 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Emelan - Tamora Pierce
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Trisana Chandler
Summary:
Can Tris fit in, and does she really want to?
Tris starts her incognito studies at Lightsbridge. Funny and sharp, just like Tris herself, and I loved the details of university life.

The Sword and the Dagger (6244 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Dragaera - Steven Brust
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Cawti, Norathar e'Lanya
Summary:
The story of the Sword and Dagger of the Jhereg, and also of the Princess and the Teckla. Not spoilery for anything past "Yendi" (book two.)
This is so perfectly in tune with canon I can hardly believe it's not by Brust. Snappy dialogue, sword-fights, Hungarian folklore and food.

Dragonsearch (8465 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Dragonriders of Pern - Anne McCaffrey
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Mirrim, Menolly, F'lar, Lessa, Path
Summary:
Mirrim and Path encounter unexpected dangers while on Search for girls to Impress green dragons.
Awesome plotty fic with Mirrim and Path being made of epic win. Fills in more than one gap in canon that I didn't know was there.

Of Workshops and Ducks (1949 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Frederica - Georgette Heyer
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Felix Merriville
Summary:
The first time Felix was called in to the study at Alver; and the last time he took himself there on his own account.
I adore Felix, and this is just so hilariously and poignantly HIM.

Descent (9204 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Classical Greece and Rome History & Literature RPF
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Emperor Augustus/Marcus Tullius Cicero filius
Characters: Marcus Tullius Cicero, Quintus Tullius Cicero, Marcus Tullius Cicero filius, Quintus Tullius Cicero filius, Tullia, Emperor Augustus
Summary:
The greatest treat of all was sitting on his father’s lap to add his signature to the bottom of a letter to Atticus while his father corrected his spelling: kappa iota kappa epsilon, the pen slipping in his chubby hand, rho omicron nu. Cicero the younger sends his greetings to Titus the Athenian.
Complicated and rich and brilliantly characterised. I have so many feelings about Cicero now!

Threads (2054 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Dalemark Quartet - Diana Wynne Jones
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Tanaqui, Duck (Dalemark Quartet), Hern (Dalemark Quartet), Robin (Dalemark Quartet), Gull (Dalemark Quartet), Tanamil (Dalemark Quartet)
Summary:
For saint_vee, who said that any new stories about Tanaqui would be great. I agreed, and decided to weave my own little tapestry of her life - or some of it. Happy Yuletide.
This really captures the strangeness of the Undying, as well as seamlessly bridging the gap between Spellcoats and the other three books.

Revenge and Reversal: or, the Further Adventures of Jack Rogers, the Last of Barrett's Privateers (17074 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Barrett's Privateers (Song)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Narrator (Barrett's Privateers), Original Characters, Original Female Character, Original Female Character of Colour
Summary:
It's been six years since he sailed away, and he just made Halifax yesterday. Now the last of Barrett's privateers is out for revenge against all those whose greed or negligence wrecked the Antelope, and with it his life. But things are not entirely what he expected. There's a mystery to be solved, a voyage to be taken, and perhaps even a shot at something resembling a happy ending.
This is just so cool! It doesn't shy away from harsh reality, but at the same time it manages to be hopeful and fun, and I loved spending time with these characters.
