How can I remember things that never happened...

This looks like too much fun to pass up! Ganked from ccalcarbonateGive me the title of a story I've never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will tell you: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got posted, the scene that ( Read more... )

"Uncle Pippin's Dilemma" was a hoot! I loved Pippin's horror at the realization that young Rose Gamgee had an adolescent crush on him. His fear of hurting her feelings and his worry about what it would do to his relationship with her was realistic, but I loved the wise way Sam reassured him. And his wry dismay at the end when he realized that her tweenaged fancy had passed on to another was also cute.

But I also liked his pride, when he realizes that even though she no longer has a crush on him, she still thinks of him as her "favorite uncle".

And Diamond's tart but loving rejoinder to his confessing that Rose's crush had been very flattering even if frightening was the perfect end!

First sentence: Pippin was worried; Rosie was simpering at him. Not Rosie the Elder (which would have been utterly horrifying), but little Rosie, which saddened him because he had always loved the way she didn't simper like a moonstruck calf.

Last sentence: "You may not be irresistible," Diamond said fondly, "but you're mine." And perhaps, Pippin thought as he kissed her, that it was just as well.

The biggest problem with writing this fic was making Rosie's crush believable without making it creepy! In fact, I originally had her try to kiss Pippin, and him letting her down that way, but I think this works better.

(Plot bunny? Eh? EH?)

"The Ancient Mariner"
WOW, this blew me away. As much as River is at the heart of this piece, doing it from Mal's POV was genius. Because River is Serenity's albatross, absolutely, and this combination of action and introspection made for a spectacular process of the crew's realization. (The Zoe moments are wonderful, too; I don't think we see her interacting with River often enough in canon.)

(And by the way:
A) this is a genius meme,
B) one of these days I definitely plan on continuing Turn of the Verse. It has a plot and everything! But it'll probably be... at least a month before I get anything more posted. :/)

First sentence: Nothing is ever smooth with River, not ever. Funny thing is, she's the reason they keep above atmo half the time, which also means River helps keeps things smooth. River's contrary like that ( ... )
