I don't know if this will help or not, but that's basically the plot of this epic WIP monstrosity which is currently eating my soul. I'm about halfway through and it's just pain, pain, and more pain and I'm just holding out for some epic comfort at the end but at this point I'm not sure if it's ever going to come. It's not exactly spectacularly written, but THE COMFORT, I WANTS IT.
(So, yeah, probably not helping you very much. Sorry. I only rarely read dark!fic like this, because it hurts. And then I always follow it up with teeth-rotting fluff.)
