a hypothetical situation
otempora01, rated PG for implied sexual situations.
Harry Potter, AS/S, m/m, post-series.
Al asks a question. Scorpius gives him an answer.
Complete, 304 words.

“Let’s say, completely hypothetically…”

Scorpius glanced up from his copy of the Prophet, one golden eyebrow arching. Whenever Al began a sentence like that, the situation was typically embarrassingly unhypothetical. Last time, it’d been about doing one’s laundry in the middle of the night without alerting one’s roommates. He couldn’t wait to hear this one.

Al fidgeted a moment before continuing. “Okay, so, I have this friend…”

This was going to be good.

“And my friend kind of… fancies his friend. Except… his friend is… well. Y’know. Of the same gender and. Which is the problem.” Al turned an adorable shade of pink and looked pointedly at him for all of three seconds before turning his eyes on the bed sheets. They were highly expensive black silk bed sheets, but they didn’t warrant the kind of attention Al was giving them.

Scorpius closed his paper and sighed.

“So you fancy me and this is your convoluted way of letting me know about it?”

Al looked startled. “How did you know?”

“Well,” Scorpius began as he set his paper on the floor by the bed and grabbed his wand, using it to draw the curtains around his bed. “Any time you start a story like that, you’re always talking about yourself. And you don’t have any friends other than myself.”

“I do, too!” Al protested. “Rosie’s my friend.”

“I meant outside the family. Though I suppose it’s really not your fault you’re related to half of Hogwarts.”

“Shut up you-” Al began heatedly, but Scorpius cut him off with his lips. Followed by his tongue. Followed by a whispered, “Did you cast a-.” Followed by a muffled, “Of course I did.”

Al didn’t sleep in his own bed that night, but the rest of their dorm mates politely pretended not to notice.
