I got into a snit on Friday thinking about self-publishing and all the stigmas that go along with it, and since I have a strict "no blogging from work" policy with myself, I kept it contained in my head and lost some of my steam

Totally! Go for it! I really think of self-publishing as a tool to getting yourself picked up, not the end result. I mean, if you have a growing audience and are good at writing and promoting youself, what publisher or agent wouldn't want to pick you up?
