Death wasn't Scottish, but she'd been there. After talking to Ian about shortbread, she had been lucky enough to find a cookbook in the rec room and the recipe was simple enough. Honestly, how hard could baking be? She was in the kitchen early, far too early for breakfast preparation to be interrupted.

"Now...let's see..."

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour
PREPARATION:
Thoroughly cream sugar and butter. Add 2 1/2 cups of the flour and mix thoroughly. Turn out onto a surface floured with remaining 1/2 cup of flour. Knead dough until it cracks on surface. Roll out 1/4-inch thick and cut out with cutters. Prick cookies with fork tines and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 275° for about 45 to 55 minutes, or until lightly browned. Makes about 2 dozen shortbread cookies.

"I can totally do that..."

Except there was only about a half a cup of butter so she sat down and puzzled out the math to divide the recipe in half before she got down to baking cookies. She doubted they'd come out as good as Ian's mam's, but they'd be good cookies to go with coffee for the morning.

[Not a meal post, but Didi's in the kitchen baking cookies. Come help! Come eat! Come laugh!]
