So he had gotten on the council.
Jim wasn't actually sure how that happened still, but his name was the second one on the list. He hadn't seen Pam all day, but knew an 'I told you so' was coming. What had started out as a sort of joke had morphed into something Jim felt like he was actually serious about. The island was good to him. He could repay it properly now.
He was still between being shocked and being happy, to be honest. He was just glad to see who else was going to be on the council with him. Veronica, Joe, Eostre, Cutter, even Leoben - all of them he was comfortable around, and he needed that when he was going into unfamiliar territory.
Of course, nervousness or not, the joke part of it was still very much there. God, for the first time in his entire life he looked forward to seeing Dwight, because there was something about being what his co-worker would consider a superior to him that tickled him. Little had changed on the island in terms of their dynamic; Jim was going to relish the glares he was going to get.
At the moment, he was actually hanging out in the rec room, waiting for Pam to be off work and hoping to spot someone to talk to. The bookshelf was not cooperating; he kept getting books on how to be a leader and, even more nerve-wracking, books about having kids.
"She's not even pregnant, yet," he muttered. "Don't start throwing books like that at me already."
The piece of furniture was not going to get to him, though, and he ignored it entirely and flopped into a chair at the table. He pulled out his handmade deck of cards - mere strips of paper with bad, crooked drawings and numbers on them - and started setting up a game of solitaire. The island couldn't mess with a game he himself had made.
