Nick supposed he was entitled to a day off now and again, particularly since according to some theories he was on holiday from his regular life, but Nick enjoyed his trade, and wasn't at all unhappy to be spending his days working with wood outdoors, not to mention evenings doing the same by the fire. But a few hours off, now that he was quite happy to do. Particularly when there was rich hot chocolate available in the kitchen and a freshly printed newspaper to be read.
He did think about settling down in the kitchen, where the smell of sugar cookies baking would waft over him, but he had just finished a project he was particularly proud of and was excited to set it up. And so he took his hot chocolate and his newspaper and settled down on the floor of the rec room to put the finishing touches on a solid wooden rocking horse.
It might have been a wee bit early for Christmas gifts, but no one was ever hurt by an early treat, as far as Nick was concerned.
