awake but cannot open my eyes

Veronica Mars was sitting on a table - not at it, but on it, legs swinging off the edge as she sipped at a cup of coffee. She'd been itching to bake since she'd mentioned it to George the week before. But now that she was here in the kitchen, ready to give in to the stupid girly urge - and really, it wasn't like she even had a passable reason like spirit boxes - she didn't know what she wanted to make.

Snickerdoodles was the obvious answer, but she was wanting to try something new now. She'd looked at the bookshelf and it had offered her a couple cookbooks. Taking one, she had come to the kitchen to perch and think. The book was open in her lap. Thumbing through it one handed, she considered the available ingredients. Maybe peanut butter cookies. Maybe something with macadamias.

The thing she was sticking on was whether or not she should even be baking. There were flour and sugar and eggs, but it wasn't like there was a lot of them or as if she had a reason to bake beyond a desire to. Either way, it was cooler indoors. Thoughts of cookies kept getting interrupted by thoughts of other things as her mind drifted.

You're getting soft, Mars.

She wanted to get up and go, but there was nowhere to run to, nothing more to see. The island was home now, but every now and then, she still longed for California and the world she had grown up knowing - a world more then ten miles wide.

[Open to next day tags, too. :O Help her decide what to bake.]
