If she hadn't glanced at the calendar on the way to the kitchen this morning, she never would've realized what today was. February 28th, Island Time. She'd been here for a year now. An entire year. This time last year she didn't even think about being here more than a few days. It quickly sunk in, though, that she wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon.
After breakfast, she quietly made her way to the rec room, intent on just spending a little time curled up on a couch with a book, maybe writing a little in what would eventually be Samantha's baby book. She paused at the book shelf, her eyes passing over the books as she hoped something decent would jump out at her, when she saw the film can. She swore it hadn't been there two seconds ago because she'd just looked at that shelf, but there it was, clear as day. She stared at it for a minute, maybe two, inwardly fighting with herself about whether she should pull it out to see what it was or if she should just leave it and pretend she never saw it.
Curiosity got the best of her, of course, and she stretched up on her toes to grab for it. The minute she read the sticker on the cover, her heart started to do a weird sort of tap dance.
The Office - S03E18 - Cocktails
It was the show. And it seemed, to her, to be a more recent episode, because she vaguely remembered the last episode she'd watched with Jim being one that was.. earlier than that. She shifted her weight back and forth and chewed on her bottom lip for a few minutes, wondering if she really wanted to watch this. She knew from Dwight that she'd never married Roy, she'd even seen it on the last episode she watched, and she knew that Jim had gone to Stamford, so she wasn't sure what she was so afraid of seeing. It wasn't like it really mattered anyway, right? She was married to Jim here, was having his baby, in fact, and they'd already agreed that it didn't matter what happened 'back home', because what happened here was what was most important.
Still, she found herself dragging the projector over and carefully running the film through the machine. She flipped the switch and settled down on one of the couches, mentally preparing herself for the worst.
When it started up, Michael was on-screen, with Dwight, in a straitjacket. Her eyes went wide and her mouth dropped open as she watched the scene play out.
"Michael the Magic?"
