It had taken Jayne a while to find Serenity - turned out she was parked down on the beach a ways north of the compound. She didn't look busted, but he wasn't no mechanic. He was mighty peeved to find that most of his stuff was gone from his bunk. OK, so maybe he'd been gone awhile, but at least everyone else could keep their hands off his stuff. He made sure to stash Vera in a clever place where nobody else could find her (under the bed).

He didn't have nothin' else to do, so he'd wandered back down to the compound, hoping to run into Wash or maybe somebody who knew him when he was here before. It made him uneasy to think that he'd done all sorts of stuff here he didn't remember. Including sexin' up some girl, apparently. That didn't make him uneasy, it just made him annoyed. You ought to remember stuff like that. It wasn't fair.

Now he was sitting outside the compound, toying with the knife he'd brought with him. The one that was identical to the one River had. Maybe there'd be a few dinosaurs left so he could stab 'em. Or maybe he could take up whittling. There didn't seem to be much else to do around here.

[Come talk to the grumpy thug. He won't stab you, I promise.]
