Though Anne had really turned eighteen months ago now, today was her proper and official eighteenth birthday. Sometimes it was hard to believe just how much things had changed in just a year's time, though many of the things that she had wanted to stay the same had, so she could hardly complain about that. However people felt about being on the island, and certainly sometimes she herself wanted to rage at it, Anne grew to have more and more to thank it for all of the time.

She was grateful that, though the island had recently gone through yet another dramatic tranformation - oh! she lay awake in bed that first night and daydreamed of just how one might describe it if asked - there were again some things that hadn't transformed along with it. Her apple tree, the one she had planted near the waterfall in memory of Matthew Cuthbert, still grew in the shade of all of the much larger trees surrounding it. And though the familiar trees surrounding her home had grown up into a great jungle, there was still a clearing around the waterfall in which she could sit beneath the apple tree with Matthew in his bassinet.

"Can you believe it's March the fifth again already?" she said aloud, to both of the Matthews who were keeping her company, both the quiet baby and the equally quiet memory living in the tree. "It's hard to believe how quickly time can go."

[ ooc: please feel free to tag even if you haven't any idea it's her birthday; it's a perfectly lovely time to meet or renew acquaintance ]
