If no one had seen O-Ren Ishii lately, it was because she had slept for the past three nights under empty beds in the compound.
She didn't sleep much, but would often fall into a doze that sounded like her mother's humming.
A loud crash above her brought her reeling back into the waking world, and she could not block out the sound of her mother's screams. Crimson bloomed on the mattress above her, dripped down onto O-Ren's cheek. "Be quiet," said her father. "O-Ren, shut up."
His eyes were wild as he pulled her out from under the bed. "You can't hide there. They know you're there now. No, don't cry. You can never cry. They will hear you. Go." And then O-Ren was outside, standing in the yard in a schoolgirl's uniform stained with dried blood.
It doesn't come out. It never comes out.
"You're not a little girl anymore," observed a man behind her. When she turned, she was not at all surprised to see him, the man in white. "Are you going to let them do this again? Gonna let him hurt mommy and daddy?" He snickered. "Poor little O-Ren Ishii, hiding under the bed."
O-Ren pulled her sword and showed him the silvery gleam, only to find him gone again.
The rifle. She needed to get the rifle. It was in... where was it? Was this really her home? There wasn't sand at home. Her head pounded and screamed, and she winced. The beach spun all around her, and all she knew was that she'd hidden the rifle somewhere. She needed to find it. It would keep them all safe.
