Chuck vs. The Awesome Wedding

May 22, 2009 14:53

For all that Devon was one hundred and fifty percent sure this wedding was the best thing that would ever happen to him, he was doing his best to keep the non-awesome part of his mind (it did exist) from scaring the crap out of him every hour the wedding drew nearer. He'd never been more terrified than when he was finally in his suit, waiting up there with Dale to keep him company. Just having him there was calming, actually, and Devon finally reached a really weird kind of zen place where all he could do was keep smiling like a dork and wait for Ellie.

Things kind of went a bit blurry as the wedding party came up (which Chuck discreetly going back after walking Meredith), and then...there was Ellie.

It was all absolutely, totally worth it.

Devon wasn't sure how he got his vows out without stumbling over his words, or how he even heard a word of what Dale said -- he couldn't keep his eyes off Ellie, who looked better than Devon had ever imagined. He'd heard something about how the whole wedding day made everything look better than it was, but Devon knew this was all Ellie. And he was the luckiest guy in any universe.

Holy crap, he was married.

Ellie was all smiles after it was all over, and even as the party moved to the reception area - right outside their hut not too far away, in fact - she stayed close to Devon, her hand in his. Everything was set up by then, food laid out and various places people could sit down and enjoy themselves.

Chuck had outdone herself. With Ned's help, there was a huge array of food, complete with a beautiful cake, of course. There were all kinds of drinks, too, including enough alcohol that people could enjoy a glass of. She really made enough for a small army from what Ellie could see. That was a very good thing, since she had made it quite clear on the invitation she posted on the bulletin board that anyone who wanted to wander over was invited to have free food. She wanted people to have fun as much as she knew she'd be enjoying herself.

With things eventually getting into full swing - there was even music, provided by Penny's collection - Ellie surveyed the party and realized how close to perfect this all was. She couldn't have asked for anything more than what she had now. She didn't doubt this would likely be the best day of her life.
