Eden had a penchant for taking in strays: the kitten who'd appeared in her home one day, the show dog who'd been left behind, the cheerleader she'd lied to for so long and a somewhat alarming number of hapless scientists. These last, at least, had been spread out over several years and she'd never actually brought them home to live with her.
It was strange, having Claire back in her life, and under such different circumstances from life before the island. Even though she'd dealt with all this once before, the process of their both acclimating to her having finally told the girl the truth and to being back in each other's lives was an odd, slow one, but she didn't care. There was a part of her that still felt it was her job, after all, to take care of Claire, and where obligation left off, affection took up its place. Reminders of the life she'd left were often uncomfortable for Eden, but she did her best not to let that show. They just both had some adjusting to do.
Day to day life didn't much change, though, and she still went to her classes, did the assignments, practiced her various hobbies, read, worked at the Children's Office, saw Grigg. She'd built a life of her own here, and she'd never especially minded that it was small and quiet. Compared to the alternative, not seeing the world or having a serious career or whatever seemed a small price to pay for peace and for being alive. She'd finished her classes for the day (voice last of all) and headed out to the beach to spend the rest of the afternoon lying in the sand with a book, and while there were plenty of times she took that for granted again and those when it seemed like it would all be over too soon, today it just felt good.
Setting her book aside and leaving Mr. Muggles to guard it (since the dog had, for once, decided to stick with her, but seemed less than thrilled by the prospect of getting anywhere near the water itself), she toed off her sandals and turned to head for the water.
[Set to the afternoon, oops. You can just find Eden still on the shore or already out in the water, if you prefer, or assume that, in turning, she ran into your pup - whatever you like. It's always a good time to meet Eden. <3]
