happy 50th!
Somehow, despite nearly giving it away a few times, Sam managed to keep Jack's surprise party a complete secret from him--Daniel was a big help in distracting Jack so Sam could Get Things Done especially in the last day or so. River offered up the beach near Serenity for the party, which worked out perfectly. There was music playing from a laptop and borrowed speakers, plenty of food and beverages thanks to Vala, Jane, and Ianto, and even the birthday cake Sam had made turned out not only edible, but actually pretty damn good. And while she hadn't had any luck in her wedding dress search so far, the clothes box had been nice enough to give her a little sleeveless dress in peridot silk.
No decorations, really, but that was fine with Sam, since the traditional black crepe streamers and "over the hill" gravestones associated with fiftieth birthdays didn't really appeal to her, considering. The beach and the spaceship were plenty decoration enough.
But Sam didn't count the party a success until Jack showed up. His reaction was an enormous grin that made his eyes crinkle around the corners (which Sam loved) and giving Sam a great big kiss right there in front of everyone--so yes, Sam thought he was pretty happy about it. She thought he'd been a little apprehensive about such a milestone of a birthday, but it turned out all right.
