and we'll all be portions for foxes

Veronica Mars was almost happy. She was a girl again, and the weekend hadn't been so bad in the end, so long as she never actually thought about it at all ever again. She still wasn't home, but being here was, for the moment, alright. Better than alright, maybe, despite the fact that she couldn't quite make herself forget what Chase had said about Johnny. Of all the stupid things to remember about that weekend, I come out with that why? Thank you, Dr Chase. The island was making her slip.

That didn't matter, though. What mattered was that things were back as close to normal as this island got; and the jukebox, which had started by belting out a chirpy Rogers and Hammerstein number at her (why, yes, she did enjoy being a girl, thank you), had found some taste.

There's blood in my mouth
'cause I've been biting my tongue all week
I keep on talking trash but I never say anything
And the talking leads to touching
And the touching leads to sex
And then there is no mystery left
And I'm bad news - baby, I'm bad news

It was nice to hear music from home blasting on that thing, even if she suspected it was being less than friendly. That was alright today. She was practically dancing as she left the song behind and made her way to the beach, singing quietly. "I know I'm alone if I'm with or without you / but just being around you offers me another form of relief..." It was a good day for a walk on the sand - maybe even a swim.

[Open to all. Lyrics from Rilo Kiley's "Portions for Foxes."]

[Veronica rejoices in her return to her usual form and, before heading out of the compound, runs into Chase. As usual, their conversation runs a gamut of random from weight rooms to chocolate to sex drives, and Veronica thrown off when the jukebox refuses to cooperate, playing Rilo Kiley's "Does He Love You?" instead of the song she wanted Chase to hear.

Out on the beach, she runs into Chris for the first time in ages, and they discuss housing arrangements and whether or not his brother will show up. She meets Hunter again, for the first time in her real body, and plays innocent right up until she walks away because she's in too good a mood to fight. Horatio admits to having been a woman over the weekend, and they agree that Archie enjoyed that just a little too much; they also talk about home and how to get back. And, for the space of about four seconds, she has an almost serious conversation with Johnny, during which they both sort of half obliquely admit to being homesick before going back to teasing again.]
