Did I consent to letting myself get robbed, or was I doing a good deed?

Forgot to write about the return bus trip. In general it was non eventful, and I slept most of the way. However, at the New York city terminal where I had to change buses I was looking around for the new gate, and this lady came up to me and showed me how to get there (I could have figured it out easily, but it was nice of her, so whatever.) I know the conflict of morals and such (Harvard Square is full of them), do you help them or is it just some way of robbing you or using the money for alcohol or drugs and such?

My mother had a great solution to this problem once. This homeless looking woman wanted money from my mother. My mother being the person she is instead of out right giving her money, said that she'd buy food for the woman if she wanted it. My mother took this woman to a restaurant (I think a McDonalds or something) and offered to pay for whatever she wanted to eat. But this woman obviously wanted the money for alcohol or something else and resisted my mother paying for a meal.

First off, I must say I find it interesting that she says she's going ot send you some money back because she's a Christian. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with anything, does it? Or perhaps its an audacious statement, that only Christians do "good deeds"? Very silly, but interesting ( ... )

Mrrr...Well dear, usually people ask to borrow a cell phone when they hit trouble to get help from a dear one...The whole "Christian" thing is usually an add on to make someone else trust them and give them money...of course, even knowingly, I don't think you did anything wrong. Just don't give out your address next time. There is the off chance that the woman was for real...but sadly, it's a rare occasion.
