That is the key to running. Relax and loosen up. I find it hardest at the start when your body is transitioning from not doing much to all of a sudden running and it is like what the hell are you doing? Then you get into the stride, warm up and get a rythmn going. You want to try and keep your posture upright so your shoulders are back and your chest open to allow for good breathing, like you say it is easy to tense up as you feel tired or stressed and as you tense and hunch forward you lose lung capacity and less oxygen makes it harder. You also want to keep your stride not too long and try and land on the ball of your foot rather than heel. More short strides is better than longer ones. After that it is mostly psychological. I get the same thing about 4Km or so in when I think you know what I have done enough and my legs feel tired and I should just stop but you have to talk your self out of it and sitract away from that thought and then next thing you know you have nearly finished. I run in the local cemetery as it is the only nice ( ... )

This was great to read, thank you.
To be honest, I have been thinking about that very thing recently on my runs - how running means that I am alive and that I should do the most I can with what I have. I owe it to myself to keep running, and I refuse to let myself down.
