The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them

i admit, i was surprised myself by how many i have read... but what i really keep thinking about is how my having read 40 odd of these books when the average is 6 means that just over five people can not have read ANY due to my excessive reading habits! frightening...

um, and yes, i know my reading didn't actually cause others to read, i'm just thinking... there must have been a small group of people in their survey group who were like me, meaning that lots of people in their survey group actually read fewer than that depressingly low average... bleargh...

i imagine that if you weren't required to read any for school, you might be a bit intimidated by older stuff. the language is a bit different and the content would seem too far removed from you. also, if you're used to just perusing youtube and have zero attention span, then forcing yourself through some reading that may be difficult to understand (at least at first) may be more than you can handle.

i don't know how they come up with that number...let's hope their sample size was too small or too illiterate.
