Whispers fell silent and music stopped playing as the door shut behind her, all eyes glued to the woman in the high heels.
She just smirked, putting a little extra something into her walk as she made her way to the bar. The music and conversation started back up slowly, swirling throughout the place like a smoky fog.
Mal looked up from his drink, taking in the skirt at the bar before turning back to Buffy on his other side.
"'nother?" He asked, lifting his near empty glass to his lips, draining what was left quickly.
Buffy only nodded, downing her own drink just as swiftly with a small grimace. As much as she was used to the drink, if still managed to sting going down.
She couldn't help but pull a strange face, scraping her tongue on the front of her teeth.
Mal chuckled. "One might almost think you weren't accustomed to this manner of drowning your troubles."
Buffy frowned at him. "Yeah, yeah, haven't heard that one before." She slammed down the second shot. "Tiny blonde girl can't hold her liquor," she mocked. A few droplets escaped the otherwise empty glass as she waved her hands about to punctuate the sentence.
"I'm not quite sure that you are in a state fit for holding anything," Adelle said calmly from behind Buffy, wiping a droplet of booze off her cheek.
What he didn't expect was to have both of them turn to glare at him at the precise same moment. It was a mite disconcerting but he figured he had it coming. Inara was always telling him it was better to keep his mouth shut when he was around ladies. 'Bout time he took some of her advice.
"I'll take that drink if you don't mind." Adelle lifted her eyebrow as she calmly took the tiny glass and downed the shot in one fluid motion. "Lovely. May I have another?"
"You can have whatever you want." Jayne, always one to pop up where he wasn't wanted, took the seat he'd vacated only moments earlier to see if the woman in the low-cut dress across the room was really his second cousin on his mother's side. Turns out he'd been mistaken but she'd agreed to meet him later if no one else more respectable came by. "Mal, pay for another drink for the nice lady."
