Maybe posting my opinion on some debate topics will help put me to friggin sleep...

Lately I've been thinking about politics and the issues that are inevitably brought up during presidential campaigns. In this journal, in order to try and make me tired, I will type a few words that can only begin to express what I think of these issues ( Read more... )

You might not have meant for a comment on here but I'm going to anyways.
I agree with you on every subject but the death penalty. I'm curious to what you say to criminals breaking out of jail? After they do horrible things they get put to jail. Yay for us catching the bad guy. But then there's the possibility of them breaking out. Sure the chances might be low, but then again any chance is too high. Killing them instantly would take out that risk yeah?

I agree with your reasoning... but the chances of a break-out in a maximum security prison is something like 1/1,000,000, if that... and it's probably just as likely that you'd be killed by someone that was not in jail than someone who broke out.

Yes, the immediate risk of that criminal is gone... but that doesn't necessarily make the world a safer place. I just think the odds are stacked against a criminal ever being dangerous again... of course, unless the judicial system screws up, which wouldn't surprise me at all.

So it's iffy... but I'd still say that it's a waste of tax payers money compared to letting them rot in a cell for the rest of their life.

Well I see your point but what about the criminals who get out after a certain about of time? After killing somebody?
And with the whole tax money, you do realize that we (not me.. my parents at the moment) are paying for inmates to stay in jail? That isn't free food they are eating or water they shower with. It will cost money either way is all I'm saying

hahah. Mike, I totally read the whole thing and suprisingly we agree on alot of things. Actually I think everything. Props to you for pointing out the abortion and gay marriage, nothing will change except through the states. Good point.
Universal Health care = good idea. Doesn't Europe do it though too?
I say good idea cause I know some people who work hard but their job doesn't provide health care, so they wont go to the Dr.s even when they really need to because they can't afford it. but how will we pay for it? Look to Europe my friends.

What about Canada? They have universal health care and they come here so they can actually get treated.

To be honest, a national health care plan that would run flawlessly would be a great thing. Unfortunately, this is not the reality of the situation ( ... )

yeah as ridiculous as it is, 99% of all the 80 year old grandpas and grandmas are going to vote for the running man who claims he's against abortion and gay marriage and on that reason alone...

I'll be 80 years old someday =(

Thankfully, I'll be able to look back on this post and remember not to vote because of that =)

Ugh! I know what you mean about abortion and gay marriage - I can't STAND when stupid people try to act like they are semi-involved with politics by taking a stand on some emotional issue that will in all reality never be considered seriously for legislation. People just find it easier to take a position on a moral issue without having to work out the complexities of important issues.
And do you really think that public health care would happen here anytime soon? Because I seriously doubt it. We have doctors coming here from all over the world because American doctors can charge your ass off. If it was government funded, even though taxes would go up, the doctors would be making less money and that would throw off a lot of the economic system that goes into medical education, equipment, etc.
