He was in the first Avatar too. He was General Fong. Unfortuantely, I have barely heard him talk outside of Lost, so I only recognize him with a heavy accent.
I know what you mean - he has sort of a "generic" voice outside of his Korean accent, but he's a good actor. In the few scenes I've seen of Hawaii 5-0, it's been odd to hear him speak normally.
To tell you the truth, I kind of miss the accent. "Udders! Udders!" X)
I'm very excited about the new series. Steampunk Avatar-verse sounds awesome and the prospect of an action show with a female lead who doesn't look like an anorexic stripper fills me with glee.

I also am on the agreeing train that Mako is a tribute - especially since Mako passed away during the original show. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH T.T
