Uhhh. As they were fighting, I really got the feeling of the title of this series, "The Chosen End," that they both in a way indirectly chose to do this (though Russia more than America, it seems, made a more explicit choice to lock away).

And just, uh. God, that sort of raw, unabashed, hateful emotion of wanting love, wanting to love, wanting to be loved all being thrown around here and America acting like a lovesick boy trying SO HARD to make the relationship work and then turning into what seems to be a glimpse of a completely obsessed ex-turned-stalker.

I shiver when I read it.

This chapter seems like it could really just stand on its own as a total one-shot fic, and it almost made me feel a punch in the gut that you guys might just go: "....aaaaand SCENE."

Because that last line, man.

That was mental overload going into the body, and out. My god.

I should probably give you a cookie, or something.

Yes indeed, that is what the title of the series refers to! Everything that happens--everything they put themselves and each other through--is what they chose to let happen. They never have anyone to blame but themselves. The pressures they face are never insurmountable, the gains from their conflicts are never that great, so why are they acting like this? Well, on some level, for some reason...they must want to. So the question of what they really want is...well, a good question, because nothing's keeping them apart but themselves.

So, gold star!

then turning into what seems to be a glimpse of a completely obsessed ex-turned-stalker.

I'm going to be kind and just say that America is not at his best during the 50s.

I'm really glad you enjoyed it! =D

*sorry, over here being speechless* I-I, damn, I just... can't leave a coherent response...

Well... one thing I can say is that, although I know both parties are not guilt-free, I have to say damn it Russia.... because I know exactly the feeling of trying to be close to someone and having that person care about you but still push you away. Maybe this is why it's having a jarring effect on me, because I know this. Perhaps not on quite a strikingly passionate level as America & Russia's situation, but still... it makes me think and wonder about the what-ifs. If I had tried harder to be closer to that person. Even knowing that it would have been a lost cause, it still makes me regret. Lots of unanswered questions and the sense of betrayal. I pushed that person away because it was just so ridiculous and I knew that it would do me no good to try and get nothing out of it if the other was being so unreasonable. So I can only imagine how America feels.

Wonderful. ♥

Dude, does America ever know how you feel. I mean, he finally throws down his toys and shouts "ENOUGH! I'm SICK of your BULLSHIT, I never get ANYWHERE with you!" and then Russia turns around and suggests that maybe he just didn't try hard enough? So he...kinda buckled, for a little bit. =/

I'm really glad you liked it. =D

"and then Russia turns around and suggests that maybe he just didn't try hard enough?"

Exactly. And then there's the subtle question in the back of the mind, "Is he right? Did I really not try hard enough?" that lingers because of that suggestion, even though you resolve to be strong about "giving up." D: Even though, seriously, no. Just friggin' no. =_= A relationship is a two-way street; not one! Anyways, that's why I can relate to America. Well, except for the fact that he's, uh, not entirely giving it up.

*shakes head*

I do feel for Russia, very much so, and want to hug his woes away. But damn. Just... damn.

"ow. my heart."

poor boys. poor fucked up, fucking themselves up boys. ( also, poor animals at the test site, but that's another thing.)

i loved the line about the pipe and gun beconming extansions of them, and america's manicness as he talks about the bomb.

Yeah, it's...well, it's not like it's your fault, the guys are just...kind of heartbreaking all the goddamn time.

i loved the line about the pipe and gun beconming extansions of them,

We are going to mess with this some more! It's totally just from our personal canon and has no basis in anything, but we think it feels right, in a strange way, that sometimes nations will have paraphernalia, and especially weapons, that are...also a part of their personal metaphor of being a nation, does that make sense?

Though it's really difficult to try and place the chapters in order of brilliance, I've got to say this has to be one of the best ones. At first there's the complete contradictory of their dialogue and actions, and after that the sudden outbreak. For some reason I wasn't expecting Russia to be the first to punch at all. Aaand as others have said, on an emotional level it can pretty much be summed up as fucking ow.

I see youkofujima already asked/pointed out what I'd been wondering for a while already i.e. the title of this whole collaboration. Because it's indeed very fitting for Russia and America. Because even when reading a happy fic about them, set in the time when they were still good friends, there's the overhanging shadow of "I know how this is going to end" about them. It's what makes the pairing so damn heartbreaking. >__<

I think Russia comes off as the more restrained, mature one, just because of his age and his manner of address, but he's...really not. They are both equally likely to fly off the handle (and I think Russia may actually be more likely to resort to "FISTS!" in a crisis, since trying to talk his way out of things has, historically, done him about this much good).

I'm glad you're happy with the title! I, uh, kinda forget we have a title, sometimes...every so often I hear people talking about "The Chosen End" and I'm like "hay guyz, wat's that? =D" until my brain turns over and I remember that TCE is not actually just called TCE.

So go figure. XD

"[...] and I think Russia may actually be more likely to resort to "FISTS!" in a crisis"
... Now I've got a comic version of that stuck in my head. XD With Russia&America having the usual bicker when Russia out of the fucking blue shouts "FISTS" and punches Al. XD Might do them both some good.

Also, because I unexpectedly found myself inspired to draw something for this chapter, is this something along the line of what type America's gun would be?

Why yes! It is pretty much the dead-standard, giant-bullet government gun for the US for the next 40 years. =D

Here's another picture of one in better condition. America's is ~new,~ after all.

I hope you'll share whatever you draw with us? =o
