We Are In Need Of Assistance!

Sorry, false alarm. This isn't a chapter update. But it's almost as good, really, because it has something to do with youAs some of you probably know, we are rapidly approaching the 1950 Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship here at TCE, and we need a bit of support from the ranks. China is going to be making several appearances, but we don't know much ( Read more... )

Well, WELL. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, so perhaps I am not the best source... but I am more than willing to help! Guess I can goggle in Chinese or ask my family? Just note that my family is a bit biased, because, well, there's a reason why I was born in Hong Kong instead of China...

I am sure there are other Chinese readers lurking around though :D

Okay, Wizard's the one who needs the China consultant in the short term, but um...c-can I remember you for when I start this Hong Kong fic I've been meaning to write? >_>

Sure thing! Glad to be of service!
Hong Kong fic! Is it going to be awesome? :D I am definitely interested in how you are going to portray him, since he hasn't officially show up in the manga yet... and I don't quite agree with the Hong Kong that the Japanese and Chinese fandoms create...

I...I don't know! XD I hope so! I'd love to hear your thoughts on how you'd like to see the Asian fandoms portray him differently, actually. There's only so much guesswork I feel comfortable doing about a nation's character (especially one that doesn't have a canon personality yet) before I go and bother somebody who's actually FROM there, you know? Like, I can read the history books and know the facts about what happened, but that doesn't fill me in much on how it's felt and perceived by the nation itself. ('S why me and Wizard have such a hard-on for finding locals and appointing them Official Consultants. XD)

Just from what I know about Hong Kong, I always paused a bit over how he's usually shown as being very quiet, obedient, etc by the fandom. It always seemed to me like Hong Kong would be a, well, a Third Culture Kid. Open-minded, approachable, has an easy time making friends, but it's hard to really get to know him because his experience growing up isn't reflected by most of his peers. He'd tend to ( ... )

Both of my roommates are from China and they love talking about it and feeding me chicken without actually telling me what part of the chicken it is. So if you need anything, I could ask them; I've already had to ask them a few things for one of my classes this year, so I know they don't mind :3 They're pretty much the nicest people I know.

Well! I've pretty much grown up in a Chinese household all my life, and although I'm a banana dismal when it comes to the written Chinese language, I suppose I still have enough background and knowledge about my own culture. I mean, we use chopsticks and eat duck every night and I essentially expose myself to my grandparents throughout the day who bombard me with questions in Chinese just to make sure I don't forget the essentials...haha. Oh, and our living room's decorated with all these calligraphy paintings and ornaments. And CCTV's put on everynight with all the latest Chinese news and historical!soaps for my benefit. Meh.

...I'm actually more HongKong rather than mainlander-Chinese, however. I visit Hong Kong more often than I actually visit the mainland (i don't think i've actually taken a formal trip to China itself, actually). I still live within the vicinities of Asia though!
