I try asking people what they mean when they say that but somehow or another they just don't just answer at all. But they don't stop either. Eventually I stopped seeing as it was a pretty hopeless case, which meant I had to go through 2 years of people using gay all the time.
But I think when people start using it they don't actually realise what they're really saying as it's become so common. Seeing as I used to use it a lot too.
YES! That's exactly the problem, they don't realize it. Me and my friends, we use it too, but we think about it. We know that when we say, that's so gay, we actually mean it's gay. It's just like saying fuck for many people, it's so common now, that almost everybody uses it, myself included. But it's not the same as saying fuck, because fuck doesn't actually mean something a person is. Well, besides being a good one.(fuck)
What's even worse is when you tell someone and they just don't care at all. Sometimes it feels as the people surrounding you are all homophobic. Ah yes, I don't have a problem at all with fuck but I suppose for more sensitive people they wouldn't like it too much. Which is somewhat weird considering it's not an actual word? Sort of.
Yeah, my mum hates it ,that when I'm angry I say fucking this fucking that (you know what I mean) because if you translate it, you're basically saying that you are fucking/screwing something...Er...Awkward! And it's funny, that when you ask if they're homophobic, they're mostly like; oh, no of course not! Yeah, right -_- If you're homophobic, then just say it so that I know what I'm dealing with.
