THE UPDATE BITS

AVAST!

We took the kids to the History Museum (AKA "The Boring Museum") for the Pirate Exhibit. Dang it! I forgot a decent camera, but as we all know these days, even a fork has a camera built into it so I was able to get a few shots.

The Dread Pirate Graylin

And of course, Long John Daxter:

And Long John Daxter when he's annoyed, hungry, or has too much bilge in his poop deck:

A bonny sweet lass:

We asked Graylin what she wanted to plunder. She said:

"Salad. And noodles. And CHOKLIT MILKSHAKES!!"

Arrr, me hearties! Hand over yer booty and salad before I keelhaul ye! (ignore the man propping up the tiny buccaneer)

Sweet Girl

Back when G was teeny-weeny, I would sing the Temptations "My Girl," subbing in "Graylin" for the chorus. She still liked to hear it when she was sad or just wanted some extra snuggles. I'd been extra tired lately (read "a cranky pain in the poop deck"), so I was surprised and set aglow when G started singing, "I got sunshine onna clowdy day...what can make me feel dis way? MOMMIE! Talking 'bout MOMMIE!"

How can that NOT boost your spirits?

While everyone was stuck on I-40 trying to get to the U2 Show...

...the family went to Humble Pie for dinner and ate al fresco. The moon was gorgeously full and situated right beside one of the new Raleigh high rises. There was a guy with a really sophisticated camera snapping the same shot. I would love to see how his pics turned out.

THE MUSIC BITS

Yes, we still listen to "Comin' Round the Mountain (toot-toot)," and we alter our lyrics sometimes ("Rock a bye baby, in the soy sauce") and HUGE thanks to Katie and Adeline for the Turtle Song. But Graylin's coming around to listening to some of Mommy's faves, though she is showing she has some of Mommy's unfortunate ability to mis-hear lyrics. Here's what she's asking for lately:

Strawberry Pie

The Pony Song

Oh Yoko

Beep Beep YEAH!

SUBMARINE!

What's more, I love Shazam. I am catching a jillion great songs, and they're saved right there, all handy-dandy. It doesn't know every song I try to get, but it's better than nothing. So for your SOTD, you're actually getting several because A) I can't post every day like I would to and B) I'm getting a backlog of great tunes.

Sick Muse by Metric

A busker who made it, Martin Sexton. I can't find any "clean" studio versions, so open up a PBR and enjoy this live version of Black Sheep.

And y'all know I love me some Old Crow Medicine Show. Can I make a mixed tape without "Wagon Wheel" on it? Why would you want to? And now they have a new(er) disc that I can wear slam out. Try James River Blues.

Ryan Bingham and The Dead Horses. Anything is fun, but give Take it Easy Mama a shot.

And I loved hearing this somewhere other than my Trainspotting soundtrack. But I got 5 bucks that says that the kid playing it over the airways at WKNC was using his copy of the Tainspotting soundtrack.

I've also abused Pandora like crazy lately, and I've been reminded of great songs that I love. This one popped up recently and I can't.

STOP.

LISTENING!!!
