tutorial #3: lorelai - luke can see her face

Since a few people asked about coloring in my latest Gilmore Girls/The X-Files icon batch, I decided to make a tutorial. I recreated THIS icon (as per misslilli's wish) but the same coloring goes for all the other icons in that post (maybe some minor alterations).

I use Photoshop CS 8.0.

#1 Duplicate base once, set to screen, opacity 35%

#2 New layer, #BAFC53 on softlight, opacity 80%

#3 Selective color layer

REDS
C: -100
Y: +100

YELLOWS
C: -100
Y: +100

GREENS
M: +100
Y: +100
B: +100

#4 Selective color layer

REDS
C: -35
M: +20
Y: +100

YELLOWS
Y: -40
B: +50

NEUTRALS
C: +45
Y: -50

#5 Duplicate base, put it on top of these layers and set it to softlight, opacity 35%

#6 Hue/Saturation: saturation +25

#7 Color balance: +16 0 +10

#8 Take THIS texture (by peoplemachines), put the colored parts above Lorelai's head and lift it up a little so that the orange/red part of it ends up on top of her head. Set this to Multiply, opacity 100%

#9 Take the same texture, flip it vertically and arrange it to cover the bottom of your icon. This isn't really a necessary step, I just got bored and added that. =P

#10 Take THIS texture (by peoplemachines) and set it on Screen, 100%

#11 Hue/saturation:
Saturation: Master +15
Cyans +16
Blues +17

#12 To add a little depth and to brighten it up, add a Brightness/Contrast layer. Put Brightness +5 and Contrast +12.
