It's a damn good thing I'm going to end up in a career doing art for other people because god knows I can't come up with anything original on my own that I can run with. :C

It's really not the same as your concept, though.
The deal is that people may have similar ideas sometimes, but no two people execute their ideas the same (unless one of those people is copying, but, y'know). Yours is a story, where other people seem to just be doing this for curiousity's sake, or just for the heck of it.
The originality of an idea doesn't lie in the idea in itself, but in what you do with it.
I mean, I certainly don't come up with very original concepts (space pirates and indies bands? honestly) but I try and take a different spin on them than what I've seen already.

Plus, if someone has the same idea as you then you can totally make them look stupid by doing it a thousand times better. And isn't that just satisfying?

Yeah, I guess you're right :) It's just kind of discouraging to find two of them in the past couple of months when I'd never seen anyone else do it before. :\

And it was also the way it was pointed out to me. She just said, "That sounds just like :insert guild here:". The guild in which she owns/co-owns. It could have been like, "Oh my god, I had the exact same idea! Here's my guild!" but there was just this accusatory tone in her words (if that makes any sense) that was just really bitchy. :\

Blahh. I dunno. There have just been a lot of these instances lately and it makes me sad and doubtful of my creativity. D8
