Oh man, I saw it at a midnight showing in college with basically a whole bunch of awesome nerds, and when Barbossa came out...aahhhh, so good. SO GOOD.

You know, when I first saw DMC, I went back to see it twice more in the next week and a half. I had issues with parts of it and wanted to throw a cup at the screen, but I liked the movie as a movie - it was fun and entertaining and vaguely irritating, which isn't a bad thing for fiction. The movie itself isn't bad; it's how some people tried to spin things in it and would put you down if you didn't agree with them, that was bad. That's the association I had with DMC for so long that I couldn't watch it for a while. These days if it's on cable when I'm switching around, I can enjoy it again.

It was interesting trying to look at it from the lens of an average viewer who doesn't love the characters so much and isn't analyzing every single moment. But even so, I still think it's a cut above a lot of big-budget action films - there are a lot of really subtle moments. Like, prepare for me going on and on about Tai Huang in the AWE rewatch.

It's just really a shame Gore and Orlando and Jack haven't all become greater names out of it. I'm very glad Zoe has done well after it - she deserves it - but think about it, who would've thought Anamaria would be getting the biggest-notice-budget roles out of all these actors a dozen years on? LOL

I still want to write a fic where Bootstrap is under the Aztec gold's curse while on Davey Jones' ship - how it picks him up from the ocean floor, how he stays so human except in moonlight and is isolated from the crew because of that, how one day he looks at his hand in the moonlight and it's flesh except for that beginning creep of scale...

Some good old-fashioned nightmare fuel, I think.

If you write it, I shall read it. I'm working on my WsIP, but I'm decidedly not writing a Will/Elizabeth/James epic where they form a little family unit and James lives in the house next door until he gets reassigned to somewhere far away. Nope, definitely not writing that one.

I've got way too much stuff to do - Deep Space Nine, Scrubs, Team Fortress 2...I couldn't easily get back to Pirates, not when I have these other things I want to get done. But the idea is yours, if you'll have it.

That Disney trip was such a blast. Remember singing the song on the ride at the top of our lungs and getting shouted down? Good times.
