Thing 1 got "army guys" in a gift bag at a birthday party we went to and now that's all I hear about. When can I get army guys? When? Why won't you buy them for me? Why? Why?

We recently began giving him a small allowance for doing some "chores," and he announced yesterday that he was going to save his money so that he could buy the army guys since we won't.

*sigh*

I have a hard time with this. I don't want to squelch it b/c I know it serves some need for his growing psyche, but I so loathe it. It is a visceral reaction when he flies his jet around making shooting noises.
He announced this morning that he is going to be an "Army Guy" for Halloween.
And I know it won't be long before he can read the price on the Army Guys.

Ahhhh, what to do?

having all girls, I don't have to deal with issues like army guys, guns and airplanes - they have no interest in them. My in laws buy that kind of stuff for my nephew though - and have basically told me they will do the same if this new baby is a boy. Army guys and jet planes I can probably live with, but I don't understand giving a child a toy gun - I won't allow those in my house! I don't like the pretend shooting (my nephew "shoots" the girls all the time, it really bothers me!)

OT, but how do you pronounce your son's name?

OT first, it's Cayenne, like the pepper, but these are only their lj names, I'll post the real names on a friend's locked thread for you :) I chose that as his lj name b/c that day he was too hot to handle.
So, I pretty much think that he sees army guys as the bad guys with all the power and he wants to experiment with being that. Dh remembers the same thing from his childhood, and so does my wonderfully passive, empathetic step father. I allow it for this reason, but I don't allow him to shot at anyone who is not playing the game and quite often I'll just say "No shooting right now". And no toys guns so far.
