A celebration of HP International

Firstly, the wonderful fenoire, who usually writes under the name of Fenice, has translated my most recent* fic, "A Cup of Kindness", into FRENCH!!

The result - "Les Amis du Temps Passé" - is quite amazing. Even with "Les Sentiments d'un Jouet" (the French version of "To Serve a Purpose" (R)) to compete against, fenoire has quite outdone herself. fenoire has been so ( Read more... )

So, you writing anything at the moment?

Also: fighting in French most sexy.

Yeah, all the time. Just never getting anything finished. :( It's rather frustrating, really. So frustrating actually that I'm afraid it will turn into a major whining session if I go on.

fighting in French most sexy.

fenoire actually doesn't like me saying that at all... It must be very strange when silly foreigners insist that your language is sexy per se whatever you say in it...

Would the whining help? In which case, perhaps you should. Go on, give us a whine! Although I'm not sure that sentence actually makes sense.

Re: silly foreigners, always reminds me of A Fish Called Wanda. heh.

give us a whine!

As in, Bordeaux or Beaujolais or something? *g*

Seriously, I dunno. It seems I can't just conduct my writing activities on the sidelines of my life. I have to plunge headfirst into it and not do anything else for as long as the inspiration lasts - which can be a few hours, and once was a period of three entire months - but at the moment I simply don't have the time for that luxury. And unlike many people I envy, I don't have the talent of squeezing in a few minutes of writing here and there and still produce results that I'd be even half happy with.

Either would be fine. *g*

Hmmph. I would like to say that I can do both writing fic and doing research at the same time, but clearly that isn't happening, as I do no work. It's too easy to get into the HP world and then I can't convince myself that I want to think about something else.

Would you write a whole story in one sitting, or write it in pieces?

Anyway, I hope you writing will go better!

Here, have a glass and make yourself at home...

It's too easy to get into the HP world and then I can't convince myself that I want to think about something else.

It does kind of work if you do a more mechanical job, it's easier to have your thoughts wandering off to lovely places then while you work. But my job isn't like that, I can't just let my brain take some time off. So I'm finding it harder than in the past to switch into the "fantasy" mode.

Would you write a whole story in one sitting, or write it in pieces?

I try to write as much as possible in one go, while the inspiration lasts. Most of my fics have turned out rather longish so far, so I hardly ever get them finished in one sitting. But even if I do, I spend a lot of time polishing the draft, editing things over and over again. I take more time doing that for the actual writing, I think.

How do you do it?

It's amazing, isn't it? The French, I mean.

And I think the comm. is a really sweet idea. :)

That is so cool, to have your fics translated into French! I'm so happy for you. :-) (Unfortunately my last French class was oh, 17 years ago, so my understanding of French is now like "Frere Jacques.")

And don't worry about time for your writing--you will get a fic done and it will be well worth the wait. (Puzzles me too, how some writers can churn out regular fics like clockwork. I mean, I'm impressed by it, but where do they find the time? That's what I'd like to know.)

Thanks! I was very flattered by fenoire's offer, too. :)

Where do they find the inspiration, more like. Time is obviously not a problem for many people, if they have a job that allows it and no family to look after (I still had that time when I was a lazy undergrad, too...). What puzzles me much more is how some of them manage to be so productive and still so good at the same time. That's what I'm in awe of, that their inspiration just doesn't seem to dry up.

It does sound great! ;).

I'd be doing this ask me about my writing meme that's going around at the moment if I wasn't too worried that all the replies I'd get would be "Your writing? What writing?"

Ah, don't be cowardly! Or overmodest to the point of self-annihilation :). I'd love to grill you in public ;).

Or overmodest to the point of self-annihilation :).

As in, self-humiliation is just a different form of arrogance? *g*

I'd love to grill you in public ;).

Well, feel free to. Just because I'm not asking people to ask doesn't mean I won't answer when they do. :)

By the way, did you get my e-mail? I sent it around 1 a.m. last night, or meant to - did I manage?
