I've just been going through the entries, adding some tags for authors/artists when I was hit with a random ponderance, so I thought I'd ask your opinions...

Fan-fiction, definitely, unless it specifies otherwise. Writers posting to this comm are surely thinking of the character as played by Peter, no? And hence not the real person the character was based on (whom I doubt many of us are actually nearly so interested in - not in the writing fan fiction on a Peter Davison comm way, anyway).

I said it was random. ;)

I have read some quite good RPF, and some not so brilliant, I think as long as it's respectfully written and properly flagged up, then RPF can be interest/entertaining.

It has it's place, but your right, this comm may not be it.

Hey, I wasn't commenting on RPF - that's a debate I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. I can see why the question occurred to you, my point was just that unless the author states otherwise, I would have thought it clear that it was fanfic of the television prgramme, and not the people whose lives it was based on.

Ok fair enough, I can understand that, I was very wary of it at first, thought it a bit odd. I made a choice to explore, and have found some I like and some I wont touch. RPF, like anything, is personal choice. /Debate

I'm sorry if I upset or offended you I was in an odd and tired mood when I made the post and replied to you.

Still friends?

I also ticked the Fan-fiction box, it just struck me as an interest discussion topic.

:)

That's kind of a good point, actually.

In this case, though, while I know they're based on real people and events, by the time it's been filtered down to the tv, I think it's left RPF-land.

Agreed. We're talking at least two places removed from the original people the books were based on, really not anywhere near RPF (though the question did make me pause and think).

My vote is for Fan fiction, mainly because, although the characters are based on real people, they have been renamed, which makes them....characters.
Also, after season 3, the stories are no longer directly from the books - The producers had writers creating new stories, based on the books, as they had run out of official texts.
Also, like Rhube said, people are thinking of Tristan as the character played by Petey. That's why they're here. ^_^
Even when I read the books - it's Petey in my head, as opposed to any other creation my mind could conjure.
XD
